Found this on Garmin site, not sure if will help. :nenau

The download process requires you to install the free Garmin Communicator Plugin on your computer so we can communicate with your device. Note: The download is installed directly to your device or microSD/SD card and is not accessible on the computer.

Is a CD / DVD as you stated new?

There is a software DVD included that allows route-planning on the computer and that what I'm trying to load but it wont respond.
The GPS unit also has its own maps which the software can store if downloaded from the unit but as I said I cant download the program.
Thanks

Have you got MapSource or BaseCamp installed?

Are you installing an old disc on a new computer by any chance? This technique (found in the depths of Garmin's FAQs) might help. It worked for CN2009 under Vista.

Open the disc in Windows Explorer, go into the IMG folder then click on the appropriate .msi file, which will probably me named ????_ENU.msi If you pick the wrong .msi file you might well install the Hungarian version as there's one for every language Garmin supports. If you intend to use MapSource then use it's Help tab to bring it the latest version before you try to use it.

I'm trying to load the 2012 file from my new Zumo and on to a new computer.
I think you are right in that I didn't have mapsource loaded.
I have reloaded an original City Select 6 inc mapsource and it looks like the 2012 disc has updated this.
I had to go into the disk a click Bootstrapper.exe then it ran the helper.
I'll find out later if the thing saves routes etc.
Also by doing this I can still use my old Quest which I use cycling and walking.
They don't make it easy.
Is there another mapping program other than mapsource these maps can use?
Thanks

Garmin BaseCamp is well suited to Cycling & walking persuits as well as Motorbike/Car routing :thumb2
