OK gents...as you may or may not know the burntout wreck I'm trying to get back on the road has absolutely NO electrical componants at all..no wiring ...nothing and also no speedo etc.

SO what would your advice be on the best route?..I'm not fussy on it being 'original' just want it to perform reliably.. is it worth getting second hand stuff? ... i have some doubts.

All advice appreciated..:aidan

Thanks

Charlie

New loom, new switch gears (they are not cheap).... there are led “idiot” light replacements.... search “Katdash”, and acewell plug n play speedo (also available from siebenrock, but the acewell ones have more functions).....and a well are in UK so no -onstage problems.

So far everyone's assuming you have an alternator and starter motor.

Any idea of your budget? That is, are you aiming for a decent bike with envy factor or just to get it going?

Do you want to keep it to BMW components?

I've got a reasonable stock of cheap secondhand components that might be just what you need....including a wiring loom with headlamp...

Well there are remnants of an alternator and starter but yet to determine if any of it is useable...so interested in what you've got.

Just aquired a loom and a good deal of electrics but not established if/what bits are missing, got indicators too ..will need headlamp ..got no clocks/switchgear/levers ... bike was a mess.

Mikeyboy has the engine, gearbox and bevelbox.

Not too prescious about actual BM bits but compatibility may be an issue.

Thanks

Regards Charlie

Charlie, look up Wunderlich part number 44970-000. It’s a simplified wiring loom to fit a number of airheads.

Sorting out a s/h loom can take some time especially if it has been modified/bodged. One way is to lay it out on a board and, after a few basic checks, you can connect a battery an use a test lamp to check each circuit.

Thanks for all the good advice ... quite confident in the integretty of the loom as I got it from Nin so everything was functioning at time of removel ... my biggest problem will be me and my ability (or lack of) ... I aways get things ssorted in the end...:aidan

I think lay out and battery test sounds like a good idea:thumb2

And my promise of your money back if it doesn’t work!
