Hi gang, a mate from over the road has a problem with Orange internet,
he can not get on the net. When he clicks on the Orange icon IE runs then says can notconect to the internet, (work off line), he has been told it could be the ethernet card....Plugged it into my router and can see the two tellies blinking, and it says online 23 mins ( or what ever ) but will not conect.
I have run cclean and spyBot but can not find any nasties... can any body help a couple of computer divvies please.....?:augie

Check firewall settings first......if it's updated itself, it may be barring access..try closing the firewall down and reconnecting.

Also (actually, first) try rebooting the router.....power it off, 20 secs, power on.....doesn't hurt to do the PC at the same time.

Can he connect to the router directly?
That should tell him if the router is connected or not.

(I'm assuming he's using a router...Orange supply them usually :nenau)

Moved the puter to my house to check it, so new boot:augie
as i said it is logged on to my router ok but still can not get on line,
fire wall IS switched off and can not switch it on says some thing about--

can not turn on fire wall ICS is being used by another program!!

even done a restore back two months to the first restore point after a reload
done by some body else.... Orange have told him it is his machine and talked him through a Restore via the puter restore disc...It's a TIME machine on XP.

Regards, lyn.
PS: not got Zone Alarm..i know about that one...

Another bit of info if it helps....if/when you/i/he clicks on the IE icon or the start botton IE, it goes to the Properties box and does not load IE...:nenau

Lost now... Hellllppppp!

Have you tried another browser - firefox for example?

Download it on another machine, stick it on a USB stick, load it onto recalcitrant machine, just in case it's an IE issue.

Update, but first thank you to all who replied....
Duff restore disc:augie his Time restore disc had corrupt windows files in/on it.
reloaded three times, even killed the hidden partion and started from scratch,
Used A N other disc:augie and all is now well... Thanks again all.
Lyn.
