I viewed a brand new Black R1250RT (no radio option) and was surprised that the speakers are no more. Just plastic blanking panels. Dealer (Vines) say that the latest bikes are being shipped like this. Having had a K16 with speakers that were useless, they probably won't be missed.

?? Why are you surprised.

If the option isnt specified, why would they fit it??

Its lean manufacturing, at its best

They have always been installed even without the audio option. I believe you could have Sat Nav directions through them as well as you own music if you wanted.

I had radio fitted but yea sat nav directions through the speakers.

My 2019 1250RT came without the audio system. No speakers were fitted.
But i have just bought a use system for £250 off ebay and it was very easy to fit.
Having it coded to my bike this coming Wednesday at a dealers for £50
I dont like having the radio on with my Cardo freedom 4+ as i talk to the wife.

I don’t think the non-radio version ever had (disconnected) speakers behind the grills, at least not on the 1600.

I seem to recall bods in America changing the space to some sort of cubby-hole.

Even the speaker grills have gone. Just a blank plastic panel now.

My first two RTs came without speakers as I kept my airman compressor in the void.

First Aid and puncture repair kits behind mine, and the torx screws replaced with these for easy access.

I think this is what the OP means, the previous panels were "perforated" IE a speaker cover, but speakers were not installed on a non audio version. The new RT now just has black covers,

Correct. A chap on the 21my onwards RT Facebook Group bought the speaker grills at £200 the pair from his dealer. They look better but probably not £200 better ...

This ^^^

My speaker covers purely exist to hide my puncture repair outfit and compressor. I would never spec a radio because on a motorbike I've never seen the point anyway of having a radio blaring out p**ing other road users off and wouldn't get much benefit from them anyway. It's about time BMW reconsidered as they have two damned good cubby spaces there and they'd be better suited for a majority of RT owners who think the same, if they replaced speaker covers with spring loaded, hinged cubby hole covers (and a water tight space) that would be far more useful. Most riders I speak to listen o music via their comm systems anyway.

I love music system on my RT, always play tunes from a USB stick.
And if "loud pipes save lives" then so does Iron Maiden at 100db whilst filtering!
Much easier than faffing about connecting bluetooth devices. And if I wanted to talk to her indoors whilst on the move I'd take the car.

Do loud pipes and loud music save lives? I've always found that they just annoy most people, especially in urban environs. Good riding standards saves lives (y)
