its happening again after the departure of the road king my thoughts turned to getting a cheap sportster for town use .
however after visiting the little custom show in shoreditch a few weeks ago i thought i wouldnt mind another chop ,so i figured getting a cheap(if there is such a thing ) sportster and maybe getting it hardtailed at fenland choppers only £400,but the i could get a whole frame for £750 ,as hardtailing a sportster frame ,they never sit right .
them maybe i could get newish wheels ,and then ,and then ,as i would rather have a stock sportster than a half ass bitsa chop .
this is how the last cheap project started it was a £250 xs 650 chop umm that then turned into a £7000 chop.
i would rather not have one that wasnt just right ,then a sportster with some different handlebars and worst of all indicators
ive never seen a sportster chop /bobber with shocks that look right .
its like the 12 step recovery programme .
i can get through this one step at a time . before i spend any money (not that ive got any at the moment )

Do I have to keep showing you this? Near standard (read "cheap" ) Sporty with a big tank, some minor mods and a paint job. Looks good, goes well, handles well enough...

pingu i have to say with a burly slammer kit that wouldnt look to bad ,i may have saved myself £3000 straight away .
wwhere is riverside harley ?
i know im in trouble as ive got all the old street chopper mags out ,and i keep visiting the xl forum ,ive done my tank designs (well ive actually sketched about 40 or so )
the fact that im poor really helps otherwise things would get out of control very quickly

Bad to the bone bike!

This is my favourite Sporty hardtail at the moment- made just down the M4 from me. 8.5K for a bike as beautiful as this seems so little!

Well, I used to think that....but this Ol' Road King is growing on me. I only bought it as a stop-gap....but find myself picking up the keys at every opportunity ....little bit more torque..little better handling..add one of Codcutters "special fuel tanks" ..and voila....I might even flog the GSA..which used to be my European weapon of choice..

Well......if it's any help, your old RK is making me smile on a daily basis currently

350 miles in the last week, fettled and re painted here and there to get rid of a bit of flaking frame paint. Motor is great, oil checked with no drop in ideal level.....

Hard tails.....not sure my backside would cope........look nice though.

2 weeks in and already looking.....the Harley bug must have you in it's grip..

Your backend will spend as much time in the air as it does on the ground. Completely pointless on modern machines, thats why harley came up with the softtail.

Fantastic looking bike but no front mudguard means it isn't a serious bike. I managed at most a quarter mile on my BSA years ago when trying for the cool no mudguard look. The amount of shit and crap that hits you in the face is unbelievable.

i agree - the std guard support rails at the rear have to be at least level or angled up or it just looks wrong.

Any downward slope after the seat does the lines no good at all.

ps - i got hardtails out of my system by 1984.. ( yes - that is a guzzi LM2 front mudder.. )
