I can watch things off the net on my computer and I get the sound (youtube etc), however if I put a DVD in the bloody thing I get the pictures but no sound:eek I have two lap tops and they both do the same freekin thing. One is a Toshiba and the other is an e-machines.....am I missing something simple, I am a self confessed dummy with techno stuff so be both gentle and basic with me :blast

sounds like its a probelm with just that DVD if its the same across all machines......have you tried another dvd or it the same for all dvd's?

it could be a few things......
you may have "muted" one of the outputs without knowing it. Click on the speaker on the bottom right of your screen, normally where you increase / decrease the volume.....right click it and choose "open volume control" and make sure the volume is turned up on the sliders and there isnt a tick in the mute box.

or........(cant see it being this if its the same for all machines)
your media player program (windows media / real player etc etc) may be looking at the wrong soundcard. You can either go into the settings and make sure its using the default soundcard or you could just download a new player.....go to www.divx.com and download their codecs (its about 27 meg) and install their divx player (its built in to this file), its all totaly legit so shouldnt be a problem

If you're struggling, get back to us and let us know what operating system your using (xp, vista .....) and which media player your struggling with (windows media player, real player etc.....)

If I don't completely switch off my PC for a few days - either leave it on or oon standby I lose sound. Restart fixes it.

:nenau

sounds like sound card settings not coming out of power save mode or the drivers need updating for it.....

sometimes when a hot fix is realeased from m'soft it can fiddle around with other things......

I'll give your suggestions a crack....many Thanks
