I've just done the 36k service on my '04 plate R1200GS.
I've replaced the oil filter with original BMW item and filled with 4L of 20W 50 (and a bit).
The other work on the engine was valve adjustment, replaced the alternator belt, and removed, polished and refitted the exhaust.

The problem is there's no oil showing in the window on the main stand and only just showing on the side stand. Usually it would show almost immediately. I just took it round the block, started ok, no warnings, ran ok and not over temperature. I am reluctant to add more as there's over 4L in there already, I just can't understand where it's all gone, I can't see any leaks.
It did however sit overnight when I drained the oil, do you think anything could have been daft enough to crawl into the engine and block the flow?
Thinking of dropping the oil and seeing what state it's in and how much comes out. What do you guys think?

Just put some more in until the level in the window is correct as per manual, you're worrying for no reason.

What the Rickster says.

These are big klanky engines... keep an eye on the oil level..

:beerjug:

Just been out and poured some more in, it's took just over 5L to get it to show in the window on the main stand. I was worried it wasn't circulating properly but as you say, worrying unnecessarily.

If the engine is warm, and do it in 1/4 litre stages, ie 1/4 litre in ride around for 10 mins 1/4 litre etc etc. Someone with a 1200RT followed the top it up till you can see it, and got twice the amount of oil in, the engine didn't like that
