No perfect all year riding gear?

Don't forget that vents will allow in the water if they are open.

My Rukka Armas jacket left me with a wet chest and arms when I rode through a cloud burst with the shoulder vents open.

I have a Klim Badlands Pro, having previously used Rukka. The Klim is heavy, but waterproof, I prefer it to the Rukka I had, but wear an Aerostitch roadcrafter in the winter and BMW air shell when it (if it) gets hot.

I'm currently using this https://www.dainesemanchester.co.uk/dainese-ice-evo-gore-tex-jacket.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5VcIQMjBp8, (I have the black one shown in the vid)
and a matched pair of dainese goretex trousers the galvestone I think so the two zip together. There are panels which peel back below the red striping on the chest. There are also zips on the back.

For my 20 mile mixed road commute it does the job well on average. Its not the warmest winter jacket so a little extra layering is necessary, but I dont really have much internal padding.

On warmer days I open the panels up and open the zips at the back, on really hot days you can open the studded and zipped cuffs to allow lots of ventilation.

On the whole a good jacket for the mixed UK climate.

I had the Dainese Galveston trousers. Utter shite with a bad design flaw. The inner lining on the trousers is far too loose and used to hang outside of the bottom of my boots. Even when tucked back in it used to start to sneak out again. It eventually caught on the side of the engine and melted a hole into the lining. Pissed me right off.

I must say, moving from a relatively cheap helmet to the Arai Tour X4, the ventilation plays a pretty big role in keeping you cool. I hadn't realised how poor the vents were on my last helmet, until i opened up the arai ones and actually felt air moving over my head!

Also, picked up a second hand rallye jacket today. Coupled with some Rev'it sand trousers which are both well ventilated, I'm about as cool as am going to get on a bike in the sun.

I've just done two weeks around Europe in temperatures that never dipped below 30, most of the time it was around 35. I've got the Klim Overland jacket and Badlands trousers and with all the vents open I was fine. I always wear a long sleeve wicking base layer regardless of temp which I think really helps. In the pissing rain around Paris on the way back I just put my North Face waterproof jacket on underneath for some warmth as the rain saps the heat out of you without any linings.

The bottom line is I don't think there is any half decent protective gear in which you're going to stay cool in temps over 25 unless you're moving to get the air flow. Having been through lots of different kit over the yearsm for me the Klim gear is as good as it gets (but I haven't tried Rukka before anyone gets too defensive). Don't bother with the Badlands stuff though as it's just too heavy. For what 99.99% of us mere mortals need I think the Overland is a great balance of price, protection, weight and features. Jeez I sound like a fucking sales guy. :blagblah

Macna Jura Jacket

Not a well known brand in the UK I think.
Wore it yesterday in London at 30degrees. Considering the temperature, I felt comfortable. Then again, at 30 degrees it will still be warm in slow traffic (you mentioned london)

Rukka APR 3 for me, very versatile. Ok you do have to carry liners if you're made of sugar, but I rarely bothered during the days and when i did, I just carried the inner jacket.

Another vote for the Klim Badlands

The venting is the best (IMO) on a goretex pro shell that you can get and the fact that it flows through from the large vents and the exhaust vents means it just works !

Once you get above say 27 deg nothing is going to be cool and protect at the same time.
When it rains just zip the vents up ( all the way, Dont ask) and fully waterproof.

When its cold heated jacket underneath

My ramblings weren't clear :D

Can anyone recommend a gortex suit that has very good ventilation for the summer even for a tosser size bloke? My Rukka gear gets too hot in the summer.

I have never found one - you really need cold/wet gear and a seperate warm/wet weather get up.

I don't think you'll find what you want. The best you can get for true all season is removable goretex lining I think. I have recently bought he Dainese D-Explorer which is so far working well in the British Summer, its got amazing ventilation, but does puff up a bit as a result. Will really find out about it when I go to Spain next month.

If there is I haven't found it.

I have a Rukka Armaxis/Cosmic suit for winter touring and a Rukka Airman mesh suit for European summer touring.
Most of the time though I just wear a Belstaff wax jacket and kevlar jeans and use an overtrouser if it rains.

I have been in search of the same thing, and am going to get one of these REVIT DOMINATOR jackets;

The very nice peeps at Helmet City in Chichester have ordered it for me, so should have it in a week or two.

The updated version of the trousers to match (also with vents like those on the chest of the jacket) are due out mid Sept.

I'll report back once I've tried it out for a few weeks, but looks very promising for 3 season use (maybe 4 with good thermal base layers).

Rev It Dominator,best I've had.

But still gets hot above 25 ish with all vents open.
