I wonder if anyone can help, I drew water into my engine a couple of days ago. Whilst pumping out the water the starter died. No probs, replaced the starter the bike starts but will not rev up. Starts reluctantly and any throttle action it will just stall, even the choke will not increase the revs and will stall it.

The battery light will not go out either. Not sure of the cause, sounds electrical but no idea as to the cause.

Throttle cables are seated fine but not really looked any further yet.

Fuse and relay box seems fine. Also the clock keeps resetting itself to 00.00

All help appreciated, thanks

Ian

Take the battery off it and put the bike in the airing cupboard for a couple of days.
Worked a treat with my mobile :thumb2:D

Could be a problem with the Hall sensor or your air filter may be waterlogged, but hopefully Steptoe will be along to give you some ideas.

As a temporary trial disconnect the inlet pipes from the filter and see if it pick up then.

WD40 on all of the ht components.

Presume you removed plugs to empty water out of the engine. Have the plug caps seated back properly? Is the sump full of water?

It may also help if you tell us how it ingested water. Flood water over the pots? Dropped in deep flood and completely submerged?

Possible alternator problem?.
How much of the bike was submerged?.
Have you drained the sump?.
Check behind black cover on the front of the motor.

Deep

The bike went into the water far enough to suck the water into the air intake but not much more.

Air box OK and a new air filter fitted, engine pumped dry of water and does now run OK but still wont rev. The Hall sensors sounds good and had been having thoughts that way myself. Will take front cover off today and have a look.

Cheers Ian

if it runs but doesn't rev i doubt if it's the hall sensors.

While it's running slowly pull/open the R/H throttle cable by hand at the throttle body, does it start to rev before it stops ?.

Also check that the throttle bodies are fully closed = look at the throttle stops, are they seated against the stops on both sides.

Yes and no

Yes it does try and rev a bit before ot stops but there is not an apreciable increase. The result is the same no matter which throttle body is opened.

The body flaps are against the stops both sides.

Just raun the bike it starts very well but will still not rev.

Cheers Ian

Take the connection off the Throttle position sensor thing on the left throttle body and use a good quality water repellent get it into the switch and even down the rubber boot at the cable side too!
