One of the front shocks needs replacing as well as the loom and electronic control panel because of an oil leak from the shock. What has amazed me is that BMW have no spare control panel either here or in Germany. I have been in contact with BMW customer services and they are unable to say when a spare part will materialise or when the repair will be done! Is this a situation anyone else has faced? Any recommendations on what to do?
The bike is only three years old and has 15k on the clock. It has a warranty on it - whew!

I am waiting for left switchgear, no timescale on back order,,,since march,,

Thanks. Amazed that a company the size of BMW can't get an issue like this sorted or even have a stock of the parts in the first place. Does not inspire confidence.

If its a bmw warranty and the bike cannot be used you should be entitled to a loan bike

We have had a situation with my fathers Audi, car < 12 months old, 5000 miles, stopped dead, recovered to main dealer, eight weeks later he got it back.

The main part required wasn't in stock either in the UK or Germany. The car is an A6 saloon, hardly rare.

You would think they might of pulled one off the production line.

Perfect example of Just in Time Manufacturing and Lean Production techniques, BMW only buy the required amount of parts from an outside supplier to be delivered just before they are needed to complete a production run, who in turn only manufacture enough parts for that one run .

As a result no one has vast amounts of spares hanging around although they will eventually make batches of spares to satisfy the manufacturer if, however, there is a run on parts , for example bmw switchgear then you are buggered once that batch of spares are used up (especially if a defective design of part needs to be modified).

Gone are the days of Triumph or BSA pulling parts off completed bikes to satisfy customers needs , and a dealer is unlikely to pull bits off a new bike when they know they cannot get replacements and will therefore be unable to sell that bike

If the bike was recovered in to the dealer by BMW Assist then you should be asking them for a replacement vehicle. They will only offer you a car, as they don't have access to bikes, but take the car anyway as the rental charge will focus BMW's attention on getting you sorted out asap :thumby:
