while over at the TT i noticed when slowing down on a closed or neutral throttle i am getting a knocking noise from the engine, i tried my mates and his doesn't make the same noise.

i am not sure if i am getting paranoid  has anyone else any experience of this? the bikes an o4 model with 16500 miles. its a shame because i love the bike but voices (sorry, noises) worry me.

More questions rather than answers I'm afraid but:-

Does it use any oil? Is it light or heavy knock? Are you sure it's the engine and not transmission or drive train (being noisy, effectively when the wheel is driving the engine)?

Good luck Jeffers and I hope it's a cheap knock rather than one of those expensive ones. Cheap knocks are those ones where you know what it is and dismiss it until it goes bang.

Pops and bangs?

Mine pops and bangs on the over-run if I don't fully close the throttle. I put it down to it adding fuel but not sending a spark, so it goes bang in the exhaust. Thought it was pretty normal really, but then I've not had a big 2 cylinder bike before.

Oddly it did it all the time when I first got the bike, now its only an occasional thing, as I must have adjusted my riding to suit the bike.

I don't have a knocking noises though, closest to that is a slight clunk when engaging the gear while moving and the engine is very cold. Again I put that down to normal clutch grabbing.

Mine does use a bit of oil though, so perhaps I should have a look at it.

noise

thanks guys but this is not a pop, its doesn't sound exhaust noise, at first i thought it was a noisy tappet, adjusted to spec and noise is still there, it is only a light knock, but its there and its bugging the s*%t out of me.

it doesn't seem to be using much oil, although the more i think about it i did an oil change before heading off to france in may and i'm pretty sure it started after the change, i used a Rock oil 20/50 semi synthetic. when the engine is fired up its ok but as it warms up the noise begins,(begining toanswer my own qestion me thinks:confused:)

Little ends? Is it both sides? Tried the old screwdriver to the ear one? Track it down to region within the lump?
