I am sure this has before, but I cant find the answer so I will ask again.

Every now and then I here a load "crack" when I start my 1150GS, it sounds like the cam chain tightening or just a very quick 'pink'

can someone tell me what it is, I am sure it is not fatal.

Mine Too

I'm glad mine isn't the only one!

I understand the general rattles while oil pressure builds up the chain tension - two or three seconds - but about one start in 20 I get that loud metallic crack just as the engne fires for the first time. My overwrought and under-educated imagination has put this down to many things, most serious of which is a piston whacking a still-open valve.

Do I know what it is???? Sorry, not a clue, but it doesn't seem to be doing any damage.

Robin.

I've had that a couple of times in the past but the crack came before I keyed the starter. I thought it was something to do with the fuel pump. Mind you, since the 6000 mile service I don't recall it happening.

And another one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mine does it every so often, worried the hell out of me the forst time, now dont care, as long as it starts.
Its a Beemer, they all make strange noises:rolleyes:
