noise that increases frequency with the increase of engine revs.

OK...metallic noise..forget the rest !!! Not good :(

Did you torque down the head before doing valves? I only ask in case one of the cylinder studs has pulled from the crankcase.

May well be worth pulling the right side off and having a proper look inspection in case a piston ring has broken etc. I assume the valve clearances are staying the same in between the times you have checkced them recently?

Try putting a screwdriver tip on the carb top of the noisy side and put your ear to the end of the handle... Is that the noise?
If it is, its carburettor piston bounce...

That didn’t come to mind! I will check

No I didn’t…

Normally I’m a bit fast with the tool kit and I always start to dismantle every thing before cheeking the simple things… but since I need the bike to go to work :) this time I’m trying to go step by step…

Concerning the chain… is there a simple way to check if it’s ok with our dismantling half of the engine?

Hello

My R100gs developed a noise (clik, clik,….) that increases frequency with the increase of engine revs.

I thought that was a valve that as not correctly adjusted but I readjust them last evening and the noise is still there. (0.10 inlet; 0.20 exhaust)

The engine doesn’t star well. Seems like just one cylinder is working but after the engine is hot every thing seems ok. Except the noise.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

click, click - metallic

It's probably the tappets - first eliminate those from your investigation - read the book and do them again

one side is always noisier than the other - I cannot remember which - I will tell you later when I have been out on my R80

Play around with the settings and see if it makes any difference, (to the noise)

130,000 kms - there will be some wear

The right side on my 1981 R80G/S is louder... I have changed the rockers to the later style, as well as having the heads rebuilt....

Someone mentioned that the puch rods may be bent and contributing ot the noise. Have yet to check those out.

Now that you mention pushrods, I notice that the pushrod from the exhaust valve in the right cylinder had some perimeter marks at about 1/3 length from the top… if it’s slightly bent could it be the reason for the metallic noise?

When I star the engine in cold weather it sometimes doesn’t do the noise. But if I rev it just a bit it starts doing it…
