Noisey 1200

Yeah I know their supposed to be noisier than the 1150 but my 700 miler is VERY loud esp on the right hand pot and it 'hunts' like crazy. cam chain probs on 200 miles. Tensioners replaced . Question? Has anyone had or heard of a similar problem? I have heard a rumour that there are others in the uk with this occurance on new GS's so maybe we need to get together to fight the corporate beast? Could there be a design fault.......

You may have got more help and sympathy in the 1200 coven,rather than here....


Good to hear from another XLV owner...mine`s an RD01 model..the red white and blue one,with the red engine

INtersting - when you say it's noisy, what sort of noise? Cam chain noise, valve noise? I always thought it was the left hand tensioner that was the weak point on GS engines. Although the 1200 has the "new" design, I believe.

Have you taken the rocker covers off for a peek inside? It's dead easy to check the end float and valve clearances if you do.

You could try 15/50 oil - my 1200 quietened down when I started using heavier oil

Well knock me down. Had the call today and my dealer has replaced the bike for an identical one.......(but this time with no noisey engine) very pleased and overjoyed (and shocked how easy it was!! It just shows you what you can achieve when on drugs to calm you down.

Nope, I'd say all 1200's I've heard, including my own, are a fair bit quieter than my old 1100 was. You must have a monday morning/friday afternoon example

Mine may be a wednesday bike though
