I've touched on this before, but I hoped I'd cured it by rubber mounting the peak. I'm sorry to report that turned out be a dismal failure.

At anything over 60 mph the peak vibrates and transfers a considerable drone into the helmet. I know it's the peak because if I reach up and grab the leading edge with my left hand I'm blessed with instant and relative silence.

I've tried bracing the peak with tape in an attempt to make it stiffer and change the resonant frequency but not had much luck with that either. I did get some improvement when I dropped the screen on my 1200 to its lowest, most raked position, but that's no longer an option with the Motorrad Concepts small GPS mount which I have fitted.

I'm now wondering about drilling holes in strategic places on the peak to change the airflow, but in the absence of an accurate model of what the airflow is actually doing.......

Anyone got access to a wind tunnel, or any other ideas?

No, I don't want to bin the peak.......:(

Have you been Tobinated??

I suspect you'll need to look at the screen rather the peak.....have another play with the angles to see if you can get it better....

I once moved mine just a few CM at most and it made a vast difference to the buffeting.....since then I've marked the tobinators to my optimum position so I can find it again easily.

Find yourself a short stretch of road you can get to buffeting speed on and spend the morning riding back and forwards tweaking the screen up and down a fraction each time.

Failing that, how about a lip on the top of it to flip the rough air a few inches upwards to clear the peak?

Seems to be a odd way of doing things ... modify your bike, so the helmet peak doen't vibrate !!

Unless it's a one off ... personally, I would lose the peak. It will cost less.

Does make you wonder about Arai's motives for selling a "fashion" helmet, that leaks and vibrates ?

My Tour X is fine, much better than my Arai Astro J.I hardly get any buffeting. Try adjusting your screen a bit.

Marcus.

I prefer the terms 'multi functional and high quality' over 'fashion' but there we are. What I would say is that the Tour-X is a fantastic piece of kit for those (like me) who want a quality trail helmet and one for tarmac all in one. I certainly bought for function not fashion and it did the job.

I have now used both my Tour-X and Shoei XR1000 on the GS with the screen low so noise would be at its worse. The Tour-X is no noisier than my Shoei, in fact under these conditions quieter. The only thing I noticed is that it looks like vibrations pass to the visor, but I see rather than hear them. TBH of the two I'd choose the Arai.

They're not compatible with the Motorrad Concepts GPS mount.

As for anyone who think that a Tour X is a "fashion" helmet...

Schtum. just you and I with this problem then! I think I may have found a cure. Not been able to M/way test yet but looks good. No need to mod screen, just stiffen up the front lip of peak. Looks a bit dodgy at moment but have figured out a better fix. Will try this weekend and let you know.;)

Whaddya mean "motorway test"...? Your nearest goat track should see you well past 60 mph...:)

So far, as I said, I've stiffened the leading edge and braced the peak underneath with greenhouse tape and I've rubber mounted it to shell. All to no avail....:(

Please let me know how you get on.....
