As I cannot afford to buy a stand alone SatNav system I thought I`d combine both Sat-Nav with my mobile phone update.

Looking at the Nokia 6110, but being a complete techno  numpty not sure wether its any good, or quite how they work.

For example, when using the GPS function does the time of use come off your contract minutes allowance :nenau

Any help or advice would be gratefully recieved, thanks.

Plenty of deals on STreetpilot III's complete with Bike and car kits City Nav 8 is a decent enough mapping prog but v9 much better for Ireland

Or check www.gpsw.co.uk perhaps something there may attract your eye

Combining a phone and a GPS is just overcomplicating things!

A lot of Folks are using PDA's and lunchbox type things to waterproof them for the bike

I have to say the 6110 is amazing ! Ive been using mine for 2 weeks now, my garmin is going on ebay later !

Thanks for that Minty.

I was wondering, do you plan to use it on the bike & if so would it be possible to attach it to the external power point on the bike as I`ve heard that the battery life of the 6110 is very short when using the GPS funtion.

It just seems to me that if I have the option to change the mobile for one that includes SatNav why waste money on buying a SatNav system.

Yes, why indeed?

I'm using Garmin Mobile XT on my Nokia N95. It works very well in the car and while walking.

On my bike the 278 is by far superior. But in the car the N95 is good enough.

I actually prefer the N95 over my Nüvi 200. The reason is that Garmin MXT allows the user to make the same setups as the 278 do. I can set visibility parameters for roads, village names, waypoints, etc. On the Nüvi this is not possible. The consequense is that the N95 gives a much better overview over nearby roads.

All three - Nüvi, 278 and N95 can guide me along a route. But only the 278 and the N95 shows me where I am.

Mounting systems for the Nokia 6110

Are motorcycle brackets & mounts available for the Nokia 6110!

Hi, Yes I use it on the bike, the battery lasts about 5 hours just as a gps device, so its not to bad, and I have a Brodit phone holder, fitted to a motorrad concepts nav mount, and a nokia charger, with a BMW power plug, my bike had an aux power socket on the near side of the front mudguard, so it works pretty well,

a mate uses his in the top of his tank bag, and has a power lead from the battery into a cigar lighter socket, and plugs a standard nokia charger into that, seems to work well to.

the only thing i would say is that the maps for europe are 99 euro from Route66 and you will need a bigger micro sd card to load them, and make sure you disable AGPS assisted-gps as this will use your phones data connection and you will be charged for it, other than that it rocks.

Mint

I use Co-pilot on my T-Mobile MDA Compact III GPS phone. I'd be tempted by a more bike-specific item for the GS but in the car I can't fault it and it means one less item to take with me and one less item to get nicked from the car! :thumb2 I haven't tried the Nokia, but I approve of the concept!
