Can anyone help a GPS numpty with the following question about my GPS systems on a Mercedes car - 54 plate with fitted system which requires disc to run - I presume operating system is a built in processor.

It only has 4 digit postcode mapping which is cr4p. Will it upgrade to 6 digit with a new disc (about £350!!) or does the disc just have the mappping info on? And (obviously) will any other (cheaper)disc work?

Or - does anyone know a friend who 'allegedly' knocks these out :nono or who has an old disc they do not need as they are megga rich and subscribe to the update service.:augie

Heres hoping:beerjug:

If you type "Mercedes Navigation DVD" into eBay, you will find disks going cheap including illegal copies.
I've just bought a genuine DVD for my Audi from eBay without problems!

A later version will definitely not improve the postcode search form 4 to 7 digits!

Good Luck!

thanks John, I'll check it out but would not think of knowingly buying an illegal copy :augie
Now this is something I know about. It very much depends upon which Mercedes you have as to what navigation system is installed. Even if they all say Comand the E class ones are different to the C & CLK. I know a man who sells the genuine Teleatlas disk's at reasonable rates. If it is for an E class then Mercedes NL are a lot cheaper than the UK V6 is the latest for the E although I don't know if it is on 6/7 digit postcode.
Copies do have a tendency to ruin the Comand system due to read errors...

Its a 'c' Blob...

Its C class Blob, thanks for the sound advice:bow . I'll do more research and have found the Merc club similar to this one - seems I am not alone on wanting to upgrade.
