Plenty of time to save your pennies ;)

oh the cents are long ago saved. ever since v5. no worthwhile improvement for Ireland until now. We're fully mapped in v9 :bounce1

cost? an upgrade will be ~$70

Like a lot of the guys on here i have just bought a 2610 with V8 city nav are we entitled to a free upgrade to V9 or do we have to pay ? don't you get one free upgrade with new software...

The deal is you get up-graded to whatever version is available at the time
you buy (not nessessarily register) your unit. But many people have said
Garmin will give you the up-grade based on when you first register it.

I was asked to fax a copy of proof of purchase before I got the Ver 8
upgrade, which implies they might have not have up-graded mine if I'd
bought the unit and waited till a newer version came out.

Based on this I registered my 2610 today. Probably have made a mistake which will cost me some money but as the NT version is already available I presume that the vanilla version will be sent to those who registered now. Still confused.:eek

I'm pretty sure that you'll qualify for a free upgrade if you purchased after September the 1st 2006. They may have tightened up on the holding back from registering trick by requesting a copy of the receipt, can't blame them for that. If you have a receipt for purchase after 01/09/2006 you should be OK.

Having said that I got real lucky with my Quest which was purchased from eBay early last year for £130, the previous owner hadn't registered it, it was over a year old and on City Select 6 mapping. I registered it via myGarmin and qualified for a free upgrade to City Nav. V8 which was a result.

If Garmin view the NT and NonNT versions as the same up-grade then you're
ok and will get it free. If they see them as seperate versions/up-grades
then you might have registered too soon (before NonNT is released).
It depends on how they look at it.

See the Garmin update page for details of the release date for NT (N.B. both NT and vanilla versions were no longer available as an upgrade option from 1st Sept last year, this, I'm 99% certain, is when the release date is). The release date, rather confusingly isn't when the disks become available. NT wasn't available until a couple of weeks ago some 3 months after the supposed release date.

If you haven't already read the relevant Garmin FAQ page for details of the qualification criteria then this might help.

I did exactly the same. However the maps are still out of date - the M50 ring road in Dublin does not exist nor the A120 from Stansted to Braintree. I will happily pay to get the latest software update as I am off to Ireland again in the summer.

Sorted

That answers the only doubt I had, sorted.

Thanks mate. :beerjug:

This is the email address I sent my question to: [email protected]

It's a great business to be in... People lined up all over Europe eagerly waiting the opportunity to buy your next update of the product, bugs 'n' all...

It'll still be an update too, so I'll have to go find my City Select 6.0 CDs to install the update on a new machine... Pah!. Oh well... Back in the queue...
