Non-starting GS....

Any thoughts on this:

Fired up SWMBO's 1150GS on 04/02 after returning from a weeks skiing holiday. It started immediately without any choke. Ran it for a few seconds & parked it up ready for her to ride the following day. Next day, it failed to start?

Battery is charged, fuels getting through judging by the plugs (wet) & it's sparking well.

I've removed the plugs, cleaned & gapped them & turned the engine over with the Motronic Relay removed just in case it was flooded. Still fails to start - any ideas? First time it's failed to start in two years.

Hey there...I NEVER answer these things as the amount of stuff I know about bikes you could fit on a stamp. ..BUT...my 650 had that prob too...wouldn't start for no apparent reason...turned out to be the starter switch....just a thought! They changed it at the service and no probs since!
How's Ela by the way? You guys coming to the GOTC's in June?

How much fuel and what pressure. Wild guess - Maybe the fuel pressure regulator ?????.
If it's failing to hold any pressure, you can still get enough fuel getting through to wet the plugs.
Quick test - Try clamping the fuel return pipe and see if it fires up, then release the clamp and see if dies, or sometime it'll only idle, and stall if you open the throttle.

Clutch switch .... can't remember if the engine turns when that dies or not but I'm sure someone will tell us shortly.

It's a state of mind not a state of bike.

You prob sounds like a fuel timing or spark timing or spark strength problem to me - but then I was trained on outboard motors not bikes ....

wont start

Had a similarish problem on my R100GS after it cut out suddenly on the motorway.
The local green flag man who fortunately knew his BMs traced it to knackered starter relay.

Tried Steptoes idea, no joy though.

Engine turns over well, fat blue spark, plug tips get damp with fuel.

Took the bike in to work today so it van be put on the Diagnostic device, hopefully it will pinpiont the problem - will post the outcome.

They had a quick look at my baby at NOG and it seems like a faulty Lambda sensor. Sounds expensive...

But no concluding diagnosis yet - there is still hope for both our bikes... Will keep you posted.

It's the DR350 - legs are not long enough for the DRZ...

Filtering is easier but I'm missing the sweet sensation of speeding... oops...

Are you sure its fuel ?

Just a thought but there might be water in the tank.

Fuel Injectors should pump it through eventually.
