NON TE Spec GS (or GSA)

I bet you could order a keyed (not keyless bike) from a dealer and then order BMW Heated grips as an accessory part, to be retro fitted at pdi

I am sure it could be done that way

This :thumby:...... I bought and ordered mine from the dealer as i didn't want keyless shite and then just put on the bits i did...
Your money is as good as anyone elses, bmw know that!! :thumb

Thanks for that insight Sven, it appears you cannot order the heated grips without Keyless, I prefer a key, already got a set of touratech panniers/top box

Now forgive but I am obviously stupid or something along those lines.

What connection does keyless ignition has with the heated grips? Is dealer trying to flog you a bike they already have in stock or one sat somewhere in the central warehouse?

Seem a bit daft IMHO.

You are probably very likely to be correct. The wire ring loom will already be there with the provision for such item.

It is a bit like buying a GS TE bike then wanting the fog lights, just buy them separately, so the install and as the dealer to activate them, by plugging in to the mothership.

Basic 1250gs

I tried to buy a basic gs last May but it was either a few months wait or a TE within a week. I have a TE.... and use very few of the gadgets on board. As for connectivity, I attach it to a battery charger once a month. :D

I think I would actually order the bike in the spec I wanted and wait 6-12 weeks

I had a GSA and wasn’t impressed with the GSAP or the keyless. The GSAP was quite clunky and often didn’t work. Keyless sorted a problem that didn’t exist, but generated problems when the fuel cap regularly wouldn’t open. But it was the ESA I disliked the most. Coming from sports bikes to BMW firstly GS’s then GSA, I was used to setting up the suspension to suit my tastes. The ESA doesn’t give you that option just a choice of presets the factory decide, take it or leave it.

Like Neil W, I went basic coincidentally from the same dealer, with some extras like cruise, Nav, and heated grips. The money I saved allowed me to buy TTX Ohlins. The ride quality was superb with compression & rebound damping adjustment at both ends. Ran that for 2 years before another back operation left me unable to cope with the bikes weight.

I sold mine back to my dealer after refitting the original shocks. They had no issues with buying it and depreciation was only £2.5K. They sold the bike during the close season. So there is certainly a demand for used bikes without all the electronic toys, that numerous posts on this forum have consistently shown not to have a reputation for reliability!!
