For the last few years my wife and I have used Norfolk Line (now DFDS) Dover-Dunkerque ferry as although the crossing is a little longer than Dover-Calais the service on board has been better. Also as Norfolk Line won't take coaches and foot passengers the trip is not spoilt by hordes of uncontrollable teenagers and drunks on booze cruises.

This year we have used the service twice but after our return crossing last week I felt compelled to email Norfolk Line criticising the poor loading control in Dunkerque and dirty toilets on board the ship.

I have just had an apologetic reply by email together with an email from Paypal advising that Norfolk Line have refunded the full payment for two bikes of £98.00. Not only have they taken the trouble to send a detailed response but they have traced the two separate bookings made by my wife and myself, although I did not give any booking references on my email, in order to process the refund.

Well done Norfolk Line. Problems with companies are a lot easier to forgive if they treat complaints properly. Maybe I will now rethink going back to SeaFrance drunks for the next crossing.

Haven't used a ferry for years, (much prefer the train these days) but it's nice to hear this sort of 'Old Fashioned' customer feedback.

I have used Norfolk Line for several years now and have been very happy and they are so cheap. Van with trailer £128.

But this year I too noticed that the toilets were not good and the ships starting to look tired.

Glad to here they responded well to your complaint.

I would like to do the train but it is always a lot more expensive whenever I come to book it.

Subsidise the cost with Tesco Clubcard vouchers - my last 2 trips have been fully funded by my grocery, petrol & wine direct consumption!

I've always found Norfolk Line very good and, despite the greater expense, enjoy both the rest-break and sense of actually going somewhere different that a sea crossing provides.
