Alright...

BMW.jpg

It's not the best example on the road, but it should keep the mud off the Blackbird for 6 months of the year.

What's the best way to renovate the wheels (cheaply!)? I've tried acid and elbow grease so far with limited results.

I guess it could be Hammerite Smooth if all else fails?

:nenau

Blimey, that's looking tidy now :)

Try paraffin on the wheels to get the muck off. If the lacquer's gone you're stuffed for getting them to look nice again. Unless you get them powder coated, I guess.

Hi bruce so another one of us goes from a Bird to a gs ( i still got the Bird) i find it great fun, hope you do

speak to you soon

I've ridden both bikes this week and just find that they complement each other perfectly...both are over 10 years old and easy to maintain.

The Blackbird (carb one, they're faster:augie) is silky smooth and powerful, a knife through butter experience.

While the GS makes you feel like you are "riding a motorbike!"
Great fun/economy/grip...

I've chucked in my old Nissan Terrano so I can have 2 bikes now and ride all year round.

Hope I don't regret it when it's -5 degrees!

:mmmm

Just try a little part with brasso/solvol/wire wool/toothbrush then it will shame you into doing the rest:augie

cheers all, have just tried a 2" square and the result is better than I expected I have to say. They'll never be like Gypsy's tho!

Well....I've tried Halfords, B&Q, Homebase and the local hardware store for "Hammerite Metal Degreaser", they were all listed as local Hammerite stockists, no luck.

I finally rang Hammerite this afternoon to find that even though it appears on their website, the product has been withdrawn due to new European law.

Must have been very powerful stuff.

Back to the wire wool then

I couldn't be sure if it was being discontinued when i bought it last. It was very cheap if i remember, so i bought a few bottles.
It wasn't acidic like wheel cleaner :nenau

Never mind, i'll have to be sparing with my remaining 5 bottles.
