hello wise ones
jumped on the bike today, turned the taps on and after a couple of minutes fuel started to pour out of the right hand carb,so i switched off and emptied the float bowl then tried again and it seemend ok, she hasn't been on her side since the snow run so why would this suddenly happen?is it normal?
she is also ticking over faster than usual at one and a half.
would appreciate any advice and suggestions.

If the carbs are not plumb vertical it can cause the floats to stick .

Probably not if everything is is new and perfect, but it has happened on a old and worn bike----.

Ticking a tad faster may have been caused by accidently pulling the throttle cable...just ensure they are seated correctly with about 1 mm of free play etc ( probably knocked it when removing float bowl etc )

Quite normal for an airhead :)

Or the "choke" lever isn't seating properly :nenau

Kinked throttle cables can also cause it :augie

I had the same thing on my R100 RS which i think was down to me parking up on the sidestand and leaving it this way for a few weeks. Now I always shut off the engine whilst vertical and immediately shut the fuel taps - no further problems

I try and shut the fuel off, and then the engine a few minutes later. If I was going to go OTT, then I'd empty the filter bowl as well, but then I might damage the seal :(

thanks guys,i cleaned and checked the floats thoroughly but didn't feel confident enough to take the carb to bits to check for dirt on my own! the choke was not returning fully which acounted for the faster tick over,no more leeks and running good, thanks for your help. i always turn the taps off before the engine and keep her on her center stand.
