When listening to music on my Zumo I am always having to alter the volume as the recordings are at differing levels.

Is there any software that I can use to normalize the output level of all tracks on the SD card - hopefully this should then keep all music at the same output level.

I use http://www.mediamonkey.com/ and find it pretty good but a word of warning. Normalising the sound level can lead to some funny effects like when loud drum hits are dulled and can sound odd. You just have to play around with the setting to get a level you can live with.

itunes can do it too, but like all compression programs i know of, it totally destroys the dynamics of the music.

i never use it.

I totally agree and so I want to be very careful in what I do.

The problem I have is that I like quite a range of music - modern to brass bands and usually brass band music is recored at a much quieter volume.

The ideal situation would be to increase the BB music up a couple of notches so that the general level is similar to the modern music without any undue compression.

Thats a bit easier to do and more reliable sound quality wise. The link I gave you can do that as well via a DB slider. Just notch it up a couple of DB and test.
