Hi all,

I'm probably worrying about nothing but off the back of some many great reviews I have booked a trip to this B&B next May with some friends.

From the outset the communications were slow, but having paid our deposits (direct bank transfer to Adrians account), just over two week I have not heard anything further to confirm the booking

Reading this thread https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/normandy-beaches-b-b-are-they-still-trading.411622/ I think it's perhaps fair to say they deal with things as and when :DD but it just makes me feel a little uneasy when I've done bank transfers of other riders money and don't have anything more than a provisional email of a booking to show for it.

It's probably all good, I haven't felt the need to ring them in France to chase it.... but as they seem to have been popular here I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks

=======

Moved.

They are as mad as mongeese but genuinely lovely and interesting people

From experience they have tendency to overbook on occasion and then panic and shuffle some guests off into another B&B round the corner - which is what happened to us once

I would either e mail and see confirmation or ring them

Thanks mate, I'm not sure if that is reassuring or not :DD :DD

I can deal with the Mongeese bit but not so sure about the overbooking....

I have sent another email today, but failing that will have to call them next week I guess.

I enjoyed my stay there , we ended up leaving bikes parked there and had breakfast there but ended up in jacques just down the road for sleeping, but was good

I echo the above!! We ended up round the corner but it didn't detract from the otherwise excellent stay

Last year, Adrian took a while to get back to me by email, but I understood his partner wasn’t in the best of health.

We had stopped there the year before no problems, quite the opposite they are both fabulous people, mad as hatters and very well regarded in the community.

I’d be confident that any issues, such as over booked will be more than adequately sorted at the time.

Hi Dan,

This will work out fine. Adrian, has had a challenging year to say the least, and Karen's has not been much better. As mentioned here they are a lovely couple who have numerous repeat visitors, from the biking and motoring worlds and I have made new contacts with my stops there. I have known them over 20+ years and stay with them regularly, but at this time of year they may well be back in the UK having a break and catching up with friends and family here.

Adrian, is, as has been said, a 'character', his knowledge of the WW2 sites etc and military history are exceptional. If he has agreed dates and has accepted your deposit he will come good, probably in his mind it is all settled. However, if you still have not heard back from him after the festive season and you are still worried, PM me and I will contact him directly to help resolve this for you. He no longer answers the landline as they are continually receiving spam callers, which is proving impossible to be able to stop.

Hi JH.... thanks for your feedback which is to be fair borne out by everything I have seen and read hear and in other places like Tripadvisor.

Being the organiser for this trip, pushing the merits of the B&B and dealing with the money, I'm just a little mindful that the others may be wondering what is going on and if they will be going to Normandy this year :giggle:

We are planning to book "Le Shuttle" in January and I also asked if there might be space for a 5th person who expressed an interest.... so just a few loose ends and then I can forget about it until a few days before we leave. :DD

Dan,

I see that I can't message PM you as you're not a subscriber. If you've not heard back by early January when you need to book the ET crossing, nudge me and I will speak with him. But let's give him a chance to get back to France first.

Thanks JH, yeah absolutely, no problem and I don't want unduly hassle them, it's no big deal really.

Thanks for your help.

it's no big deal really.

It’ll be a big deal if the owner has skipped off with the money :augie

The place sounds like a shambles. But it’s seemingly popular.

Just ring the owner up. Speaking to people (it’s the old fashioned, but quite effective way) is usually a lot easier - and quicker - than emails. Once you have spoken to the owner, follow it up with an email. If they don’t answer the phone, within say three attempts over a week, then email them, expressing your concerns.

There is no suggestion that has happened, but yes I wouldn't be impressed if it did.... calling them is of course an option, there is a possibility they are back in the UK over Xmas.

I’m sure the hosts are wonderful people who offer a fantastic service in a great location but, and a big but, if like the op I was booking for others I’d also be fretting.
Takes seconds to answer a phone/text/email.
