So we headed off from the lake for a final nights camping in St Sever Calvados and a lovely home cooked meal with Blue's n Two's friends and their lovely German Shepherd/Boarder Collie cross Vera.....

Easy Sushi lookin good......:augie

Campsite was in a lovely setting in the woods...:D

We woke up to a dry ground so all the gear was packed away without any moisture on it and another opportunity for more bike pics.....

We then headed off for the Normandy beaches with a stop at a great little restaurant which was obviously popular with the local off roaders.....:D

The weather went to rats as we approached the beaches and the bikes looked a little worse for wear...... The off road lanes contributed to them....:D

We stopped at St Mer Eglise for some more pics before heading off to catch the ferry back to blighty:D

All in all a great trip and massive thanks to Easy Sushi for arranging it all to begin with. Would definately do it again and can't wait to........:thumb2

Great Trip

Excellent write up chaps, its always good to do a post trip report.

If you don't mind, I a weeks time, I will transfer this thread to the ride reports section, so that others can find the photos and comments.

Just a thought, if you used GPS, why not post the route so that others can follow your footsteps?

Well done

Paul

SHINY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday we headed south to Carnac and the prehistoric standing stones, more dusty roads en route.
007.JPG
008.JPG
and a brief stop in the forest for smokes, no.1s, and photos.
010.JPG
heading closer to Carnac, Jon had set his Zumo to 'find dead ends'
011.JPG
After a very brief stop at the standing stones we headed to Carnac Plage for eats.
We all settled for something 'safe' from the menu with the exception of Ty,
Gallette with an Andouillette topping ( the waiter described it as "a sort of ham" with a smirk on his face). Jon being the more adventurous type tried the andouillete first "It looks like shit and smells like shit" before taking a very, very brief mouthfull, turns out it tasted like shit too.:D

Friday we set the destination as Forest de Paimpont being ever optomistic and confident in our combined navigational skills:augie
012.JPG

013.JPG

014.JPG
so we ended up near Ploermel by the Lacau duc.
Once again, after pitching the tents we went in search of firewood.
015.JPG
Got joined that evening by an ex-pat Taff, his French missis and three border collies. It became clear that Jon really does have a soft spot for animals !

Saturday after breaking camp we made Paimpont for coffee and croissants.

We then headed for Calvados to meet up with Jon's mates Stuart and Elaine, we arrived in the town and met up with the couple at one of the local bars.
020.JPG
We pitched the tents for our final night at the local campsite and then rode back down into town to be treated to a wonderfull meal curtousy of Elaine :thumb2
For our final day we headed for Swiss Normandy and followed the Orne Valley 'ish' stopping off for eats at a little resteraunt in St Omer

Time was now getting on and we needed to start making progress to get to Cherbourg in reasonable time. We headed for Bayeux and onto the coast road at Port en Bessin. The rain was now coming down quite hard and the roads were getting muddy. I had warned the others that it was quite a slow road and getting stuck behind a Gendarme van was the last straw. We made a quick detour taking in our last bit of green lane before hitting the N13 to Cherbourg. We had a short stop in St Mere Eglise where I got chatting to a couple of Americans, they asked me where I was from, Kent I replied "is that near Wales ?" :blast FFS.

A really great trip guys

Thanks to Ty for organising it:thumb2
Thanks to Ty, Chris and Jon for being such good company:thumb
Thanks to Stuart and Elaine for being such good hosts on the Sat evening:thumb
And we look foreward to the next trip

Excellent write up guys and great pics. A pity you couldn't have smuggled the white headed Collie back in your pannier as I would have bought him off you;)

Looks like you had great weather the other side of the channel - I've never thought of a camping trip whilst touring but this posting made me see the reason why it can be fun.

Thanks for posting. That 1150 GSA SE looks the busioness by the way:augie
