This is the plan

3-4 day trip to Normandy....to go visit the beaches, memorials, pegasus bridge, and also going to Bayeaux to see the tapestry!

a bit of culture and history.

camping or youth hostelling which ever is preferred.

thinking of going either this b/h weekend or weekend after (ie first week in september)

ferries are bloody expensive from portsmouth to cherbourg or Caen so am thinking chunnel.

if you are interested then please let me know.

Try brittany Ferries, Poole to Cherbourg, I done the crossing middle of last month for £68 return with the bike, no cabin just reclining lounge seat.

Did it earlier this year

That was my route for the 65th aniv this June. Was a nice quick crossing. Ride down the Cotentan is easy too and if you plan ahead, can stop and see stuff was you go, like St Maire Eglise etc.

Sounds good. Going this BH anyway and chose to stay in Caen rather than Bayeux as there are more hotels to choose from.

I have been working on a plan of what to visit D-Day wise using a waypoints file I got off here or maybe the BMW Club Forum, and augmenting it with places I googled. You might find it useful.

As well as the beach museums and the guns at Longues sur Mer I have added a German radar site as well.

NB: Apologoes to the creator of this file for nicking it but it was freely avaiable for download.

Accomodation and rideout

Hi,

Following the thread, I see you are thinking of coming over to this part of the world in Sept.

If you are interested, I can offer bed and breakfast at a reasonable rate and also local knowledge of road conditions etc.

Fraid so, because of work I have not been able to get over there for a meeting for a no of years but I am still friends with some of the observors.

Anyway, dont really want to post a no on here but an email adressed to my nickname on here at hotmail.co.uk (all lower case) will reach me and I can let you know some details and arrange a meet up if I am around for a ride out

If you put some contact details up then you might get some business was all I was thinking, but I know where you are coming from.

Your last name doesn't begin with 'Sta' does it by any chance?

Yes it does :). Sounds like you know me. Ifyou have my mobile give me a call. If you don't and you know PW the webmaster at EKAM you should be able to get my mobile no of him.

Due to strong winds my French phone line has come down and I am off until Tuesday,

Some friends were over last weekend and from what I gather the group included a few non-ex-EKAM members.... Now there's a lot of unhappy bunnies as they saw f.a.
