Found a ex-USSR military harbor. It's hard to imagine how the hell they got that much concrete and put it into sea. Now it's in bad shape.

Separate concrete island in the gulf (on the right). Dunno it's purpose. Probably security reconnaissance station.

War ship bits left into the sea, maybe even nuclear submarine ones:

The USSR concrete roads nowadays:

Found some other place too, that was used for puting stuff to ships:

Perfect roads:

Almost full day discovering the roads and views there then it's time to head back home.

Yes, really lovely. Might be passing through Estonia in early September, anywhere that really stands out?

Laheema is certainly a beaut spot, lots of nice walks too, and PLENTY of gravel roads. Fond memories of an excellent meal in Loksa and discussion with some locals that invited us back to see the tanker they were re-decking in yard...we said no...regret it to this day...never mind. Great country and people - I'll dig out a piccie if I can from our visit a few years back - great photo post Margus ;)

If we're still alive, then we're back from Iran at that time. Feel free to contact me then any questions and help you need in Estonia.

Lahemaa is easy to find and lot to discover place, can show those places on the map too the pics i did.

You see, the world really is a small place. We passed Loksa too, very small town, mainly due havin' a workin seaport, nice place, and there're even nicer ones we passed.

Cheers, Margus :beerjug:

Ah ha... well, I was planning on heading down through Iran too at about that time but given all the carnet nonsense I decided I'd leave it for another occasion, perhaps when the bikes depreciated a bit. So I'm heading through to St. Petersburg instead and turning south somewhere. I've got three months, I had a look at Lahemaa on the map last night so it's on the list of places to see. Might bump into you in September :)

Thanks

Thanks for posting some great images. They'll be really good to show all those people asking me why i'm going to ride through the Baltics in June and saying things like `isn't it all a bit grey and grim`.Now definitely looking forward to the trip.

I love grey and grim... fascinated by Eastern Europe and Russia and all the leftover military paraphernalia and icons. I guess things are a bit changed these days but I'd have loved to have headed that way shortly after 1989.

We may be attempting to enter Iran without Carnet de Passage too, btw, if we don't get enough deposit for the bike. German ADAC wants about 1500EUR for deposit to issue the Carnet document (you'll get this money back after return) + 200EUR issuing fee (only cash goes away from you). I've heard on many travellers entering Iran without the carnet and there's temporary import document alternative available on bigger Turkey/Iran borderposts - BUT, it'll take ALOT of paper byrocracy hassle + about 100-300$ (insurance/import/issuing) fee ( mostly depends how good talker you are if they ask "how much money is your bike's worth?" :) ). So it's doable, if you have time and nerves for it. If we don't get enough to fund deposit, then we'll certanly try the non-carnet way.

My biggest concern was paying the single indemnity insurance to cover the carnet, about 4000 sterling, having the bike pinched and not managing to get the carnet stamped by the local police for whatever reason only to have to come back and have to find another 36000 sterling to pay the rest of the carnet off. As if having the bike pinched wasn't bad enough. I'll be very interesting to see how you get on getting into Iran.

(Looks like I lied on me other post when I said I have TCKs on for the trip...oops)

Fritz, that's an excellent pic, love the film. And damn fine looking airhead!

Cheers, Margus
