North London meeting - Thursday 9th July 2009 - another Green Lanes rideout!

Five of us took to the Hertfordshire lanes last night.

There was:

Petevito2 (BMW 650 X Challenge)
Argonaught (BMW F800GS)
Martin Nelhams (KTM 990 Adventure)
Dave Emsley (KTM 950 Super Enduro R)
Me (Husaberg FE450)

Heading north-east from Ware, a couple of trails took us to the Barwick ford. Despite is slippery base (as Physio Jo discovered last year and Dave almost discovered last night) the crossing us uneventful.

Next up was the Latchford 1 ford. Jason stalled in the middle of the crossing but had no other problems.

The Latchford 2 ford was a little deeper but again there were no issues.

Around the corner was the notorious Standon ford. Whilst I would normally ride/push through it, honours last night went to Dave who gurgled the Super Enduro R through the depths.

On to Furneaux Pelham ford – reputedly the longest ford in Europe. It has to be said that the water levels were quite low. Just as well really, as Pete managed to drop his bike and himself into the drink. As a bystander was later to note, he looked as if he had burst his colostomy bag!

The wet bits over, the return route to Whitewebbs was over a series of familiar lanes. Only Jason being caught out by the loose footing when we stopped at the end of a lane.

I got some footage from my front camera which I’ll throw onto YouTube this evening (I should have formatted the card on my rear camera!)

Our return to Whitewebbs found Marks Adventure, Bowser and GS Rider. Much bollox was spoken along with the exchange of several useful hints and tips!

No rideout next month – we’ll have a photo session instead.

Muchos Gracias!

Thanks Greg, Dave , Peter et al. It was a very pleasant way to spend a Hertfordshire evening. Apologies to Peter for sliding into your back tyre & for getting your name repeatedly wrong :blast and the group for having you all wait for me at the end of the lanes, but hey, someone's got to be slowest, & it might as well be me. :nenau

I took the 800GS into SBW this morning for it's 6K service & apparently the front AND rear wheel bearings are shot & dangerous to ride on, so perhaps that might explain everything...:blagblah

Until next time!

It's ok I've got one of those instantly forgettable faces I'd make a great spy, don't worry about sliding into me bit a mate of mine did the selfsame thing in Park Lane outside the BMW showroom so he had a much bigger audience.. Anyways with those shot wheel bearings can see why it happened now.. Just hoped you did jet wash it a bit before you took it in...
Cheers Greg for a good trip out...
Oh not a split bag I was scared it was the real thing.....:green gri
