Having accidentally hi-jacked an earlier thread by Gerry C.,(apologies Gerry.... I'll keep me big mouth shut the next time) it would seem we have a new run. It's from the North Pole to the South Pole.
The South Pole is a pub in Co. Kerry. It was openned by Tom Crean, who accompanied Ernest Shackleton on his Antartic Expedition. The North Pole is a pub in Co. Donegal. Gawd knows how it got it's name, but if anyone does, please let us know!
The run is open to all comers. There have been quite a few suggestions for it but sadly I can't oblige y'all, so here's the plan.
The weekend will be that of Friday 16th April.
The group will meet up in Malin Head, Co. Donegal on Friday night, and set off on Saturday morning. This will allow anyone such as Garfield and Timolga coming from Britain enough travel time.
I can put up about 20 people on the Friday night on an indoor camping basis (that means a sleeping bag and kip roll on the floor ). Anyone who wants B & B, etc details - I can make these available at a later date.
We will set off on the Saturday with a brief stop at the North Pole for a group photo. The actual route can be fully decided later, but I propose spending the Saturday night in Galway/North Clare. Anybody doing the run in the reverse direction could meet up with us there.
On the Sunday, we head down through the Burren, cross the Shannon on the ferry and should be in Annascaul for early afternoon. This will allow anyone who wants to, to head home that Sunday. The rest of us can stay locally.
Gerry C., could you give me the details of the hostel nearby please?
The general idea will be to keep the plans loose. There will be a sticker (and somehow I have a South Pole t-shirt, so I know they are available).
Can people now let me know who's coming and who will be staying for each of the nights, so I can get accommodation booked?
Let the biking commence!
