I’m after some recommendations for a base - probably 3 night stay in the North West of Scotland. The wife (a fine English woman) and I (a displaced Scot) did some touring last year (imagine 9-12 on the clock of the Nc500) and she loved it enough that she agreed I (we) can return home when I retire in a few years.
When we toured last year it was a bit hit and miss with some of the overnight stops and so I’d be grateful if the members here could help recommend a single base where we could leave the panniers behind; grab a decent meal and a drink in the evening. I’d rather we had a singular base and radiated out each day - to return home and relax than load the bike each day and relocate.

Anywhere from Oban to Ullapool- suggestions gratefully received 👍

You're spoilt for choice!!!
I'm in Arisaig just now, I really like the coast here... Heading onto Skye tomorrow and eventually the Outer Hebrides for another couple of weeks (in my camper van) .
Do you want a larger town, or a small village?
Plockton, Applecross, Shieldaig, Appin, all favourites of mine.... (Probably in that order!)

I’m not worried about the size- just a decent place with an evening meal and a beer on offer that is well located for me and she to try and narrow down where we’ll move to in a few years

Shieldaig campsite has some luxury pods with lovely views over the bay. Short walk down to the pub. Probably full until at least September though. Quite a long (slow) way in and out. Are you dead set on somewhere remote on the west coast?. Beauly/Inverness/Nairn would allow you to reach many places from wet-as-an-otter's-pocket Fort William to Gairloch and Ullapool, north up the east coast, the Moray coast and south to places like Braemar in a day.

I quite fancy retiring to Cromarty, lovely wee place on the Black Isle...

Depending how posh you are……..the wee hostel in Applecross is a gem. They have single rooms too for around £80 - which is bargain for up there recently.
Take a torch for 20 minute walk to Applecross Inn though.
Gairloch maybe??………..or register interest with Ullapool accommodation and they’ll email every accommodation with your dates.
Oh and try to avoid weekends 😬

We stayed in Beauly last year- yes, very lovely - we thought we’d stay in or near where we’d eventually move to

Left Arisaig this morning after an early voyage in our Sea Kayaks
Mallaig ferries fully booked so had to drive all the way around to Skye. Reminds me how fabulous this area is.
Now in Uig. Uig is beautiful. The Uig Hotel has great food too. Would be a good choice but a long way off the beaten track...
Ferry to Harris tomorrow
