I can see a mileage increase between “old” and “new” routes, Grant 
yes slightly.....
Also tried booking one of the hotels that @Arsey recommended on his route. Hotel Les Nous but they wont take only 1 night in Setpember....any ideas in the very close vicinity?

Seriously, I will get off the Harwich ferry around 0700 on the Monday and head down to Portsmouth for the evening crossing / cruise / ferry to Spain. Don't really want to ride the motorway all the way but was thinking about a country run down avoiding as many potholes as possible. Anyone got any ideas for this?
Maybe even a pit stop along the way for some lunch.....Happy to meet up with anyone along the road as well...
Maybe drop through East Meon in Hampshire and an old favourite from many years ago the Olde George Inn.....Not sure if its still any good.....

blimey, with 3 nights on a boat, you could have easily ridden through France!
also, you have picked a horrible A to B, possibly one of the worst in the UK!
maybe head west to Aylesbury then cut south of Oxford to meet the A34?

Yes I know. Not the greatest area to ride through….would prefer to avoid the south east altogether and maybe head west from Harwich over the top of london then down.
Did something similar a good few years ago in reverse and it was traffic all the way, shite roads and lots of stop / start through towns and villages….i have got almost 12 hours so could almost walk it….

Sounds like it should be a nice village in the Cotswolds.
The only good thing about the N-260 is that t keeps all the Wakpanzers off of the good routes along the Pyrenees!

The N-260 will end up being patrolled, curtailed, policed, banned.
Time has not made it any better.
Me? I’d take the pragmatic view that the main purpose of the holiday was to enjoy (I guess) the sea crossing to Santander and definitely the ride back through Spain and France. The journey Harwich or London to Portsmouth I’d treat simply a necessary evil, to be knocked off as easily and quickly as possible. There again, I wouldn’t be starting from Harwich, to reference the old Irish joke.
Can't see that TBH, this is Spain after all where they're sensible about these things!
Actually I just dd a quick search for 'controls' and it's all about drugs and smuggling tobacco form Andorra. Just one traffic issue was an Andorran clocked driving at 196 kph which is pretty much par for the course. If you see the characteristic Andorra plates in your mirrors it's wise simply to take cover!
Monday the 21st arrival Harwich 0700..11 hours to get to Portsmouth. I think i might go the north way around London seeing as i have the time and then grab a bite in a nice pub along the way…..The only good thing about the N-260 is that t keeps all the Wakpanzers off of the good routes along the Pyrenees!
