Hi all, planning a 2 week tour of Northern Spain, beginning of September. Quite possibly one of these routes.

Although planning to take the ferry to Bilbao due to timing of the ferries.

I have usually brought my tent with me to France and Benlux and have done a mixture of camping and airbnbs. What are the camp sites like in Northern Spain or is it even worth bringing my camping gear? Will it be ok to rock up to hotels without bookings in early September?

If anyone has some GPX routes, for nice roads, could also do a little off roading but nothing too technical, nice villages, food, markets. Please DM me.

Thanking you in advance.

hotels in Spain are very cheap compared to France. Leave the tent at home e.g. room only in a 4* Parador can be as low as £60 a night. You pay more than that for a 2* chain McHotel in France.
Use Google Maps to find places to stay - it shows availability across various booking sites.

Just arriving in Bilbao, had a rough time with sea sickness! Considering riding back through France when I get to San Sebastian. Any suggestion on routes, will have about 5 days to get back.

You might have a millpond going home
It’s not that bad in Biscay most of the time

San Sebastián to Calais, I guess?

This is one possibility for five days worth:

750 miles or an average of 150 miles a day for five days on the bounce, D roads mostly.

PS It’s only rough.

That looks great thanks! Hopefully after a week I would have forgotten how bad the ferry crossing was and complete the loop, or get some stronger drugs.

But great to have options. 😁

Heading there tomorrow. Riding back from Picos-San Sebastian-Rochefort-St Malo.
Pretty much all non autoroute.

Other common stop offs are Ile de Re and La Rochelle . Normally go via the Royan ferry to dodge Bordeaux

I’m on the 29th sept ferry to Santander with mates however I’m not a good sailer so will have plenty of Stugeron 15 tablets, If it’s rough I’ll transit back through France and take a few extra days.

I took the chance on the ferry back from Santander armed with tablets and glad to say it was fine. Sea seemed much calmer. Thanks for the route planning, I'll get a copy of that map though.

La Rochelle...met an x girlfriend of Bono in Aldi whilst buying plonk for the friend of a couple we met on the boat who said we could sleep the night at his house.

What could possibly go wrong :blast
