North Yorkshire I believe..
So we have the route, accommodation and places to see sorted for our journey in July 16 days in total.
Norway part of the trip approx 1200 miles round trip.
We'll ride up to Newcastle overnight to Amsterdam and then make our why up through Germany & Denmark and over to Norway, with the return nearly the same but a quick stop over in the Netherlands.

Just put the route up for those who might be interested. Always happy to hear of things to see and do along a route. We have stops planned probably the more popular common ones most folk do.

Notice youre staying to the south. Planning to head to Norway in August but heading North to the Arctic circle and Lofoton, all based on a Motorad tour ive seen. Any particular reason on staying south? Am i missing a trick? Bergen and Oslo are the most southern parts of our trip.

Our trip is planned over 16 days door to door. Three days there and three back. We don't do huge miles each day, more of a holiday site seeing and the riding gets us there. We try and work on about 250 miles a day as a max, also take in a couple of two nights in a town so we have a day off the bike normally each week of the two week trip. There are the days we will bash in a bigger mileage depending on the trip.

I think you are making a wise decision to visit the Lofoton area. We went two years ago in August. We made the decision to visit Lofoton over going to Nordkapp. Speaking to other riders along the way it seems it was the best decision. There were a great many road closures on our trip which made getting North interesting to say the least. All main roads closed due to floods, landslides etc. This saw us having to use small dirt, gravel tracks for a great many kilometres. Those groups riding on road tyres were having to change their routes as they simply could not get sufficient grip to ride the gravel.
Luckily we both had decent dual purpose tyres so the gravel became part of the fun.

Thanks for the reply TJ. Ours is 18 days, with generally 150 to 250 miles a day, like you, got a couple of bigger days just to eat miles. The only way ive been able to get the Lofoton Islands in is to only have 1 day off the bike in Alesund that which i must confess isnt ideal.

Blimey Glenn, youve got me twitching now. I dont mind a little bit of offroad/gravel on my Himalayan but two up on a laden GSA is not for us. Certainly dont fancy anything that requires dual purpose rubber. (I know im going to attract a lot of abuse but for us the GS is just a comfortable touring bike. )
Can i ask, have you any recollection of where you had to get off tarmac?

This is basically our route, do go onto Bergen and then back to Oslo.

Basically from Lillehammer north to Trondheim. The main road (I think A6) was pretty much closed all the way. Floods and landslides were everywhere. There had been a bad storm through a day or two earlier. Motorad type trip was re routing to go south as their bikes/tyres were not up to the gravel roads. Once north of Mo I Rana there didn’t seem to be any problem. Your route is pretty much the same route we took. There’s an Anthony Gormley statue in the sea at Mo I Rana like the ones in the Mersey. My lad has a brewery so our trip did turn into a craft beer/brewery tour of Norway. There are some very good beers being made all over Norway. I had the best octopus I’ve ever had at a restaurant in Oslo. You have me wanting to go again now.

Thats one hell of a diversion. Now you mention it i seem to recalls very bad floods when Richy Vida did his tour.
Ill try the beers but octopus can stay in the sea for me. ;)
