Norway - Nordkapp - Fjords trip

Tuesday 11th
From: Eidsdal
To: Sogndal
Miles travelled: 218 miles

Left Eidsdal in hopeful weather but it didn't last
long. Dropped down to Geiranger, lovely small town
but it was clear you needed a fully loaded wallet
to spend more than 10 mins here. Moved on up and
into rain. Bit miserable now and was chucking it
down when we arrived at Forde. Got onto the Gaulerfjell
Pass where the weather improved......you can see how
constantly changing the weather system is. However, we
had no more rain for the remainder of the trip.
Camped up in Sogndal.

Geiranger Fjord

Wednesday 12th
From: Sogndal
To: Flesberg
Miles travelled: 258 miles

Left campsite and jumped straight onto a small ferry
to Fodnes. Met a couple of Swedes who we rode with
for a couple of hours. Took the old road to Aurlandsvangen
which is narrow, bleak, windy and raw. Check out the
photos below for view looking into town. Rode down to
Voss then over to Eidfjord where we'd been on our first
day. Continued down to Flesberg where we camped up.

Thursday 13th
From: Flesberg
To: Valle
Miles travelled: 151 miles

Had to back track this morning to Veggi and picked
up a well maintained graded road. Honda was happy.
Cost us a fiver to ride the road. Now travelling
on roads I'm pretty used to pheasants, sheep and now
reindeer but today I was not sure what do with this
horse......not a small donkey or an old nag used to
please the kids on a Sunday morning....this was a
pretty fit looking piece of kit. What do you do, which
way do you go round....shall I get off and ask him ?
He was keeping to the centre of the track so had a
choice......looks like right hand side was good.
Back onto tarmac and on up to Rjukan (Heros of Telemark).
Checked out the museum and got a sit on the old beemer.
Great roads from here to Amot, long sweeping, smooth
surface and empty roads again.........getting boring
these empty roads !! Camped up at Valle.

Veggli toll road

Friday 14th
From: Valle
To: Kleppe
Miles travlled: 180 miles

Headed towards Lysebotn. Initially missed the turning
and discoverd the name on the signpost I wanted was
100 metres up the road we needed to get on....this happened
quite often. Road to Lysebotn is narrow and difficult to
pass traffic when we came across it....not often. Could
be a bit dodgy as coaches use this road and I could
foresee a 'problem' happening. Great views looking into
Lysebotn from cafe and a decent set of hairpins to ride.
Couple of photos and moved on to coast. Now this is
where the traffic got heavy.......we got ourselves into
a 4 car traffic jam in Kleppe so we decided to cut our
losses and camped up for the night.

Saturday 15th
From: Kleppe
To: Haugesund
Miles travelled: 71 miles

Ferry home was in the evening so got up late and had
a leisurely ride up to Haugesund. Had a sit round
the mariner there which is 'very nice'. Got the bikes
tied up nicely on the ship.....excellent blokey spent
some quality time making sure they were safe....nice one.
Docked at 6pm.....immigration had a seperate queue for
bikes and we back in Harrogate at 7.30pm.....end to an
excellent trip.

Nice report & a trip I'd like to do one day.

When is your mate chopping his Hornet in for a GS then ???

Sogndal campsite...guess which tents were ours !!

Is it the PINK ONES?

Great photos, though - and should be an inspiration to others to get their GS's over to Norway.

Nice one!

Al :D
