Lovely day and I’ve not been out this year yet so fancied an hour or so …… not a good start.

I did have a ABS light problem last year (2004 GSA with servo brakes) but I had cleaned up the sensors and topped up the fluids over the winter, so I was interested to see if it had fixed the problem. I had also fitted new 1200 injectors.

Around a mile up the road it felt as though I had jammed the brakes on, the bike would rev ok, but it was like something was stopping it going …… it freed off, but then did it again and felt really dangerous. I pulled up on the pavement next to a petrol station, put the bike on its centre stand and rotated the wheels and tried the brakes, all seem ok (it gets worse 😳)

A Tesla pull up behind me on the pavement and naturally you think ah someone has pulled up to see if they can help…….but the guy says “have you lost a top box?” I hadn’t even noticed it had gone 🙈 together with the £500 360 camera in it!! He tells me a bike behind me picked it up and he thinks has left it somewhere….he can see I am having problems with the bike so offers to go and see if he can find it. 😁

Looking over the bike I can see that the back wheel had actually locked up, I think it’s the ABS? Both Servos are making a noise when I apply the brakes ….. is the back one supposed to stop the noise when I press really hard unlike the front which carries on making a noise when pressed hard?

Anyway the guy returns and has found my topbox it’s not too bad just a bit beaten up and the camera in it is ok…..I’m so grateful 🙏

So I turn off the ABS and turn around to go home , all seems ok, although after a mile or so I notice the ABS off light has gone off and I have 2 ABS lights on again with one flashing.

Opinions please good folks:

It all points to the ABS to me, do you think I’m right as I thought the ABS if faulty would just stop working and give me residual braking and not lock up?

So do I remove the ABS if it’s that or go down the replacing the ABS sensor? (I’ve really lost confidence in the ABS as this shook me a bit)

Thanks

You are right.
The front brake servo motor runs continuously while the front brake lever is applied.

The rear brake servo motor runs for a short period then stops with the rear brake applied.

As said and repeated... De servo ABS .. easy and the brakes are better after... Life is simple when you have a direct connection between levers and calipers...

Wouldn't have this shite Howz if you had a Blackbird 🤗
Don’t know about that Tim .when I had my BB I had a few problems ,the wiring plug that is only used after factory assembly corroded and shorted causing the ecu to spike the the reg/rec went tits up frying the battery and buggering up the charging system .so Hondas can be troublesome too although my 93 Cbr1000 F was brilliant ,should have kept it .

I think Tim is comically and friendly just taking the piss out of me 😂 as there was a time long long ago when I was Blackbird mad 😊 and having owned 11 of them over the years I probably was!! 😂😂😂

Cheers Howard, yes @rovert57 I was taking the piss.

As for the problems you had Trev, they were well documented and Bez's and Wobbs' famous "LoomFix was well known even as a preemptive solution before it raised its ugly head. The shite reg/rec was easily upgraded. (Both my Birds have Panigale reg/recs fitted) 🤗

Yes it seemed that my bike was a textbook case for what could happen, did the charging issue myself but when it needed a new loo and ecu I put it into a Honda dealer , ouch

My 2001 GS came without ABS quite glad about that. But I had some battery trouble so fitted a f****** big one where the ABS gubbins should have been. Good mod !! 🦖🦖
