All good its sorted. BUT its a bike in warranty, and presumably has BMWFSH and therefore seems odd you are having to pay...

For sure. But thinking this through, seems to me that bleeding the clutch hydraulics would be the fix here. Also seems to me that changing the fluid is overkill. Hence my rationale that being charged for this is odd...

Sounds to me like the hand guard was fouling the clutch lever.
Cannons have knocked it into place and charged you for a quick clutch fluid change.

to be fair I'll swallow the £40.... cudda been a whole world of sh1t worse!

That would cause the clutch to slip not drag.
More likely there was air in there which bleeding/changing fluid got out.
Glad its sorted for you.

Did you buy it from a main stealer? If so and it is the clutch (although it doesn't sound like it is) I'd be demanding they cover the cost as even though it's a wear and tear item they shouldn't be selling you a bike with only 3 weeks worth of clutch left.

Looks like I was a bit late posting as you'd already got it fixed. Glad it's sorted and hope that's the last of it and you can go on enjoying the bike. I'd have still kicked up a fuss about having to pay, but then I'm a tight northerner :augie

Well :(

The plot thickens.....
Changing the fluid made it work for a few days, Then I re routed the clutch pipe so that there was only the upward way to the lever as recommended.

I did loads of research and it appears this is a common problem in the USA that dealers are denying. Long and short its gunna be a replacement slave cylinder as most recommended on here.

The problem only occurs when

a) the engine / fluid is hot and

b) when braking from high speed, downhill eg coming off the motorway. The clutch pipe produces small bubbles that travel back to the slave cylinder in these circumstances and thus, no clutch pressure.

as a temporary measure, Ive been taking the clutch reservior cap off and pumping the bubbles out ( engine on, level ground) the clutch will then work well until you hit a high speed road.

Its gunna be fixed under the extended warrantly (however with a £100 excess) next week. If that doesnt fix it, then it has to be the master cylinder or pipe itself, but going on the many US reports its 99% to be the slave cylinder. I will update....

...and you shld get the dealer that you paid the £40 to fix the problem to refund it as they have not fixed the problem !

looks like its sh1t worse now, sadly.

yes mate, think youre right. the bloke i dealt with is on holiday but back when I take it in, so I shall be avin a word, if they dont move then I ll be taking me 24k miles service elsewhere

I'd expect them to discount the new slave cylinder by the £40 already spent as a goodwill gesture.

Fair enough to charge for parts not covered under warranty, but why pay for a repair that didn't work.

You wouldn't expect to pay a restaurant full price for a crap meal would you ???:nenau

Finally got it sorted

Slave cylinder changed (been using it a week no probs). They charged me the £100 excess on the warranty but refunded me the original £40+ for the diagnosis so overall happy man

Just as an aside, Canon BMW Braintree are doing free oil upto £50 with any big service if booked before xmas. You have to quote 'free oil' when booking in. Its on their website
