Not Doc not in Cologne

Morning,

definitely don't need BHP and need the bike to handle a few narrow roads / beyond tight hairpins. I hired the very Stelvio in November for three days and bar a bit of a jolt when putting into first I thought it was great (a la Arsey comment maybe the gearbox on it was f'd).

From Canary Ride stables we rent a few and then swap each day for 'extended test rides' including Stelvio, Ducati Desert Sled, Tracer 7, Transalp, GSX8TT, Desert X, Africa Twin and NT1100.

My favourite for Gran Canaria is the Desert X. Least was the Transalp.

Stunning morning

Actually quite pleased the Stelvio was gefucken as the 900GS is ace apart from the rather crude Gear Shift Assist Prod and the rock hard seat , but luckily I packed my seat pad .
Just stopped for coffee in the mountains . Lunch by the marina in Puerto Rico

Great original trip report, thanks. I’m sure it inspired some UKGSERS to book a trip which I jumped on. Even took Bernie out for a day on the Suzuki 800.

I had hummed and hawed on the first 2 days with the lads if I should extend the riding and get Bernie out for the day, the wisdom of two grandparents tearing around on these roads but common sense prevailed and we just did it.

In my head I was Kevin Schwantz with a pillion. 🤣

Had MRA set to avoid off-road . This road is supposedly tarmac 😜

May have invalidated the Canary Ride no off road clause .

Oops

Absolutely epic day . Possibly the best single days riding I’ve ever done .
MRA was utter shite . Had to resort to Google Maps.
The first mistake was it took us down about 20 miles of dirt track even though we had ‘avoid off road’ selected .
But it was stunning . Quite gnarly in places . The 900GS was brilliant. Stuck it in Enduro mode and just road in 2nd/3rd. Fuelling was perfect .
Bit trickier for Sxoops on the NC750!

This is the route we did .

Ignore the red bit .MRA kept adding it even though it’s a closed road

The section in Green above was the off road bit . So beautiful up there .

He told me that the GC210 was open despite showing red line on Google Maps

So we replanned back via Mogan to Altea on the awesome GC200 then the 210 back to Artenera.

He said one red line means road works and two means it’s shut .

There were no roadworks, just new tarmac for the entire route.

First an ice-cream

Then the GC200 shown in green.

Quite possibly the best stretch of road I’ve ever ridden . Race track smooth, little traffic and fast sweeping bends and some tight hairpins up over a mountain range .Done it a few times in both directions but blows my mind every time .
Like the Route Napoleon on acid. Simply sublime .

Then the 210 shown in green

IMG_5456.jpeg

This is like riding the balcony roads in the Vercors. On new tarmac, with some of the steepest tightest hairpins you will ever ride

I’ve said it before -if you’ve never been to Gran Canaria you really should . I’d rate it as the finest weeks riding you can ever do anywhere . Such variety and stunning scenery.

A world away from the naff resorts where all the Brits stay crowded on a beach .

Landmarkjohn may be in this piccy 😜

Meanwhile, had a WhatsApp from Canary Ride. The Stelvio is worse that thought and well fucked. They sent me these pics, but I’m not sure what is the issue, being a mechanical numpty
