Now that many WC owners seems to be returning their bikes to BMW to have them completed or have part ex'd them for another manufacturers finished article having been duped into forking out £15k to be a development rider for BMW,I was just wondering if any of you lucky 1190 owners feel that way about your new toys,of have KTM done a better job and actually completed testing themselves ?

I tried a toilet over this weekend....Rosie and I went out and tried out an FJR1300A, a Pan 13, a 12 RT, a 1600GT and the lux version, and a twin cam 12 adv.......sadly, there were no 1190 advs to be tried within our range, but at the end of the day, given the offer of any of the bikes we'd tried, Rosie would have gone for the Hexhead 12 adv (and I must admit, the special dealer offer package ones with tinted screens and the Nav4 etc etc did look very nice)

I would have ridden away on a 1600GTL, but that was neck and neck with the 12 GSA......

I really must get us out on an 1190 adv soon......Rosie hated the 990 for its position and rigid seat, plus my size 14 feet requiring her to shift on her pegs so I can change gear.....I'm hoping a properly set up 1190 will answer all of our needs, 'cos the toilet left me cold.

Don't posh Toilets have heated seats ?

Don't you want to be a Boring Mediocre Wanker ?

:D

I do know of a guy here in Norn Iron has just gone over to the mainland and swopped his toilet for an 1190 Adv after only 1500 miles. There seems to be alot less concerns for 1190 owners compared to the toilet owners from what I've read on the net. No doubt the nutty one will be along soon to redress the balance. :augie

Interesting !!! I bet nobody ever sells an 1190 Adv for a Toilet, unless it's due to old age or wanting a project bike !!

How do the 1190 owners find the heat from the rear cylinder and exhaust? Do they find their legs are being cooked or is it manageable?

Out with a mate on one all weekend in 28'C temps.

He only noticed it in heavy traffic but said it was never an issue and moving his knee out a bit when stationary at lights meant he didn't feel it at all.

TBH he had such a hooooooge, permanent grin on his face that it didn't really seem to be on his list of priorities :)

Just wondered, as I took one out for a demo ride today. I know it was hot but I was aware of the heat below 50mph and in town the backs of my legs were cooking. Getting back on my GSA heat management returned to normal, but I certainly missed the power of the 1190:D

Ah sorry, I though you were having a bit of a troll............

Did you find the heat enough of an issue to put you off or could you live with it?

I would need a second test ride on a cooler day to determine that Andres. But getting back on to my GSA afterwards was a much nicer environment for my legs in todays temperatures. The KTM dealer in Hemel was good as gold and said another test ride won't be a problem at all.

It really is a cracking motorcycle, with ergos that fit me very well indeed. The engine is a peach and although there was some surging at low speed in street mode, a simple switch to rain mode sorted that out. The way it produces power is awesome and it felt like the sort of acceleration achieved when throwing an aircraft off an aircraft carrier with a steam catapult.:D

I took one for a test and the engine is fantastic, handling is also fantastic, found it a little cramped for me but I am tall. Over all it has to be one of the best bikes to ride I have ever had a go on loved every miniute of if, until I got off and looked at it!!!
I just wish it wasnt so damed ugly, I really hate the looks, the exhaust, tanks the seat the the whole package is just fecking hedious.
For me it dont matter how good it is I still have to look at the thing in the drive and I could not spend upwards of 13,500 on some I think is that ugly.
And dont dont get me started on the luggage, how can a company that produced the 990 and the RC8, bring out luggage like that, its even worse than the crap that triumph produce!! and I thought that would never be bettered.
I so wanted to like it, I had the cash to buy one as soon as it was relesed, saw it in the flesh at the NEC went out and bought a 990, its not a patch on the 1190 from an engine/handling point of view but in every other respect it does it for me.

When I first saw it at the NEC, it was the one bike that really impressed me over everything else. Yes, there were a couple of aspects in the looks dept that didn't quite gell for me, but the more I looked at pictures and the more I took in when pouring my eyes over ones in the dealers, I found that like most things, the design grows with familiarity. I do intend to change the exhaust for something a little neater (choices are limited at the moment) and I might get those lower silver (protection ?) panels painted satin black. But otherwise, I think it's actually one of the best lookers of the breed even tho' adventure bikes as a whole cannot be classed as beautiful by design. I do think it's leagues ahead of the toilet which has too many angles going on all over the place and is, IMO, a real mess.

A couple of low mileage wc are starting to pop over here. One for sale at the moment with only 600km on it in done deal. Hmmm
