Sorry guys, I can see the attraction of the machine but unfortunately the F800GS just isn't for me.
Mine is now listed in the for sale section at a veritable bargain of a price...

just out of interest ,what bike did you come from ,whats your riding style ,sports bike ,tourer ,etc ,and whats next for you .
the 800 is a great bike ,but not for everyone .

Sports bike,

but I do have the obligatory bad back, hence the need to try something different. I can't go back to sports which is why I'm looking at and test riding naked bikes. I believe they can fill the void.
As I've said the GS just doesn't do for me, I've tried for almost a year and can't fault the machine, it's me.
It's not necessarily a speed thrill thing either, I'm just not getting the "open garage, smile, that's MY BIKE" vibe.
Hey ho my loss is someone elses gain, at least I gave it a shot.
Cheers
Andy

I don't know if you've tried a Speed Triple or even better a Speed Triple R. I took the R out from Edinburgh Triumph a few months back and loved it.

Had a speed triple

in 2006/2007 and agree they're an awesome machine.
I had a deal for street triple r done but it's fell through.
Would also consider a KTM Superduke, which ever one it is I'm waiting again for the right machine to pop up.

Just my tuppenth !
I would never have another KTM, my Superduke's front brake seized when I had it a couple of years ago (a new bike) and threw me down the road. Turned out the caliper was seized and it also appeared mine wasn't the only one, in fact guys had broken bones becasue of the same problem.

After an MCN campaign and lots of publicity, they finally published guidelines but they wouldnt do a recall. Their 'advice' especially in Scotland, was to wash your brakes after every ride in the winter !!

They tried to keep it quiet, but I wouldn't let them and also lots of others.
This was after a wiring loom replacement, bike cutting out at low revs, oil leaks and then finally the brake seizure, so I would never, ever touch a KTM again, their customer service sucks, big time, especially those :censor: in Perth !!!

Thanks Russ

for the input.
I've never had a KTM but always quite like the SD, I obviously need to do more research.
Street triple r still favourite at the moment!

How about a Tuono? I'm riding an 06 at the mo, loads of power, nice sitting up position, which doesn't effect my dodgy back, handles nice. Just a thought.

Had an RSV Factory

Which seized on me, wouldn't touch another Aprilia.
Also the usual issues with having to bleed the clutch all the time, no rear brake and trying to engage neutral was an absolute nightmare!
Thanks for the advice tho

I know just how you feel. I got rid of my F8 after a year and bought a new Kwak W800 Classic. Love it. Having said that I did like the 8 but red hot legs was really starting to piss me off.

Street triple R +++++

I've come from the STR, absolutely mint bike, just too fast for me, 100mph through country lanes an't good, needed the F8 to slow me down.
The only answer for me is 2 bikes, big thumper and something different. else your always searching, a never ending need to change.
next bike!!??-- KTM SMT got to be worth a look.
What ever we change too it'll soon be up for sale.

I have only heard good things about the street triple especially the r.

I did try a kwak z1000sx before the gs, i have had every sportsbike bike going and the engine on it was a peach, they look tame but it was very raw feeling when you gave it the beans and got a proper wiggle on, good fun.

I always fancied a speed triple so I was very disappointed when I didn't get on with it on a test ride. Engines a peach but the seating position is awful - arse up in the air and weight on your wrists.
You should try a KTM-SMT. I've just sold mine after 2 years and its a great fun bike with some practicality as well.

Depending on what you like riding, I would also recommend a CB1000R.

I had one after the Superduke fiasco and it was a fantastic bike, absolutely loved it but had to sell it a year later when a house build took financial priority !!
Really regretted selling it but tomorrow I collect a new Crosstourer to sit alongside the F800GS and the old Blackbird.
Intend using CT for longer distance mile munching as the engine is amazing, so much torque in any gear. Planning a tour to Italy next year and just felt the F8 would struggle on long motorways, etc, so had a test ride on the CT and it got me hooked !
Looking forward to getting her tomorrow !!

The wife has a later (58 reg) model 600 Hornet, similar looks to the 1000 above.
Thay are a superb bike, light, quick, agile, surprisingly practical and superbly built have a 200 mile tank range.

Certainly worth a look if you don't want a 1000.
