I don’t normally do ride reports, in fact to be fair I wouldn’t really call this a true ride report in the same vain as some of our resident long distance travellers but I am proud of the fact that I did attempt my bike camping trip albeit a quick run to the East Coast.

Camping and me is like trying to mix oil and water, we don’t match, we dont mix too well. But hey, this blonde had put the wrong weekend in her diary schedule and missed the coveted STD event .... so what the hell, lets do this outdoor living under canvas on my own then! The sun was shining, the bike was loaded and off I went ....

So I arrived at the site, signed in at reception

and they directed me off to the field around the back, it was looking promising

to the ..... Horse Paddock?? :eek

Landed the bike in a quiet spot on the edge of the field (bookmark this thought, I shall return to this one shortly)

Unloaded the tent .... aaargh!! This is why I don’t do camping! It took me ages to get the bloody thing up and then I couldn’t do it without a bit of a helping hand from a very nice man.

My home for a couple of nights .... Hooray!

I reckon I now deserved a drink, thank you Bouncer :ChrisKelly

So off I went in search for food, I did say it was more of a picture report than a ride report, bear with me here ....

It was a really warm night and there was surprisingly not too many folk about

Found a beautiful little harbour and headed off to see what delights they had to offer ...

Now this looked to be interesting, I could hear music from a distance, laughter and the sound of clinking glasses .... a party? Hmmm ...

Turns out it was a floating ‘restaurant’ which sold the most amazing dutch pancakes ever!

The menu was mouthwatering and it did its best to tempt me aboard but I wasn’t going to let it sway me, the nice man on the campsite had informed me earlier of a really nice fish and chip shop just by the quay and recommended that I should pay them a visit. So that’s where I headed, pancakes for tea tomorrow evening, I shall be back. Mr K you would have been proud of me!

More to follow .....

Looks lovely. Wherabouts?

Looks like Wells next to the sea ! :augie

:beerjug:

You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it so far .... and yes a tot of the the good stuff did go down very well :thumb2

More to come shortly.

Duchess. Did you remember somethig to put under your sidestand. theres nothing worse thasn having the indignity of your bike falling on your tent in the middle of the night. Please don't ask me how I know this small fact about grass fields and sidestands......:thumb2:augie

certainly does look nice....and the F&C......and youve still got your Versys

I have, I love it. I did test ride the new Verseys 1000 a couple of weekend ago but if I want to keep my license (boy could it move!) I'll stick with the one I've got for the time being.

It was ok, the side stand has quite a wide foot rest so it didnt move a bit.

I remember seeing a bike on its side at one of the events :D I reckon I have a picture of that somewhere, must dig it out for you

if it wasn't for the headlight those bikes would be quite nice.

carry on.. :)

ok, here we go ...

Enjoyed the fish and chips and sauntered over to check the menu out for tomorrows meal ...

My next task on the list was shoot off and find nearest store, buy myself a few provisions. Nothing grand mind, just enough to make a cup of coffee, a bit of breakfast and something light to pack for tomorrow.

There were no real plans made and with just a couple of days away I was aiming more for a chill out weekend, to relax and take in my surroundings. The bike was there for me if I wanted to take her out and tour the area a little more but to be fair there was so much to see where I was and I really didn’t feel the need to ride, not this weekend anyway.

The harbour was a hive of activity, a proper lively place and buzzing with a great family atmosphere – crab fishing

Lots of pretty boats coming in for the nights mooring ....

It was good to sit and people watch for a while and if I didn’t know any better I could have sworn I saw Timolgra’s Angie snapping away ..... Angie you have a double!

There was a lovely little MG parked nearby and it tugged my memory bank back to when I owned a little MG Midget many years ago. She was my pride and joy and the second car I’d owned since passing my test. This car was clearly loved just as much, it was in mint condition

I did spy att’s little boat moored for the evening, not sure about your sign writer att but he’s nearly got it right (smile) ....

A quick detour and I took a quick stroll to the beach before making my way back to the tent to settle in for night.

There were some beautiful little beach huts on the sand

But it was time to head back, it was getting dark and I didnt fancy wandering around the beach on my own for too long

Settling in for the night .... Gawd I so HATE airbeds, I’m with you on that one Y2Blade.

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346258

I must of drifted off to sleep as the next thing I knew I was woken to hear the sound of rustling in my tent.

Oh my Gawd panic set in! Somebody or something is in here with me!!
Keeping as calm as could be I grabbed my torch, what I was going to do with it heavens knows .... unzipped the inner tent and shone it out. Two little black beady eyes spun round and stared straight back at me then curled itself tight into a ball. It was the biggest hedgehog I’d ever seen! He’d slipped in under the tent and was scavenging around through the carrier bag of food I’d bought earlier. I don’t know who was more shocked, him or me. I grabbed my nearest flip flop (ok its the only thing I had to hand) and paddled it out of the tent into the dark night, zipped the tent back up, moved the bags and settled back down ..... Damn it, now I cant sleep. I was listening for every sound, every bit of rustling was making me nervous and to make matters worse the bloody airbed had gone down, I was now sleeping on the ground, bugger! This was going to be a long night.

More to come .... !

Great report....:clap

From another Versys owner....

Great report enjoying reading so far & looking forward to the next installment!

Been a while since I headed off on my own but reading this makes me want to :beerjug:

Thank you chaps :) to be fair I dont do it alone that often it was just a moment in time that took my fancy. I usually ride with others, but it was fun all the same. Fun ... hmmm ... maybe I should have said an experience :D

Well....did you see him....Arkwright, I mean? :thumb2

I must admit I do find the Versys 1000 quite fancyable, in a bizarre kind of way! :nenau

....

Now Duchess, there is nothing coveted about an STD event - most people try and avoid them like the plague, I hope however you enjoyed some crabs and winkles on your trip by the seaside ... :kissy2
