I don't think any of Civil's deals with others should be brought into this, besides, how many people could he have possibly pissed off on this site ? He's made a mistake and will probably lose more through this thread and what it's done to his reputation than he could have possibly gained from DrFaroff which proves to my mind that he wasn't being malicious.

I do think Jay is probably a nice guy, I've never met him so my opinion is based mostly on this thread.

I think both of them should sort it out between themselves

They're both individually in the wrong, for starting threads about the bike repair/switch episode

It shouldn't have been 'washed' in public by Jay or Phil

Sort it out fella's, you're both good men:thumb

As a frequenter of this site for many years...

I don`t know either parties personally, so can only comment on what I have read of them in the aforementioned years.

Civil is a cnut.

DrFarkoff is nearly a sound guy.

I could elaborate, but feel that would just be :blagblah bullshit round the `ouses and the point I would be trying to make is just as I have written above:thumb

Carry on.

Finally the abridged version

Sent from my iPhone whilst driving and even with autocorrect I can't spell!

Bad form........

Civil is a cnut.

DrFarkoff is nearly a sound guy.

Now that's a bit harsh, without knowing the man how can you say he's only nearly a sound guy.

A few years ago I put my old Volvo into the garage for an MOT, when the mechanic went to open the bonnet, the cable snapped. I was told that they could replace it at part cost plus labour and they couldn't finish the MOT without opening the bonnet so I was also an MOT fee down.

I paid for the work to be done, the cable was old so it was going to snap the next time I opened the bonnet or otherwise. The garage waived the retest fee.

I didn't think that was at all out if order from the garage to charge me for an old component that failed in their possession under normal use. Their gesture of waiving the retest fee was nice and I continue to use the garage to this day.

If an item failed at a Main Dealer, charging Main Dealer rates, I would think they may well replace it out of their Main Dealer profit.

But it sounds like the Doc was charging Mates Rates (or less) and in those circumstances I personally wouldn't expect him to replace such an item on a 24 year-old bike.

Not so sure the customer will be eligible for Mates Rates again after this thread

COULD IT BE POSSIBLE THAT YOU ARE ALL !!!

I would be very surprised if that was the case having worked at a car main dealer. I now am in the family business and we are auto electricians. My bike is still in warranty and at its 12000 mile service I collected it and the dip beam bulb was blown. I would assume it didn't happen until I started the bike on collection as it should have been checked. On going back in and pointing it out the service receptionist happily fitted a new one and soon removed it when he asked for around £15+ vat for the bulb no labour. I can buy a packet of 10 for £20 of equal quality to the dealer bulb :rob

Hey DickHead, this thread isn't all about you ya know.......... oh, maybe it is. :blast

Now get back to your drunken stupor, she's getting cold. :proff

That's a lot of debate over a broken switch. My mother's car went in for a service at a local garage once and a spark plug broke off in the cylinder head!

Do you have link to the garage's rant and if possible your mother's reply?
