I took my 2006 Griso 1100 out for a spin yesterday after spending the winter fettling it. It looks lovely rides lovely and overall is a very nice machine. I stopped for a coffee, jumped back on the bike then realised that it would actually turn over whilst engaged in gear. What's up there?

Dodgy clutch switch?

My Triumph Tiger will start in gear if the side stand is up and the clutch pulled in. I thought all bikes would do this.

if you had the lever pulled , s/s up ...and it lurched forwards when you pressed the button ....the clutch plates have stuck together.
oil or rust is the cause , but i'm surprised , as you have ridden it ! so i would think oil is the cause .
happened just once ? or has the clutch become grabby , and like a light switch ? on or off ? which is oil on the plates .

don’t you remember the good old days when all bikes did this? No clutch or side stand switches back in the 70s. You’ll soon get used to it.

Seriously, Sounds like someone has dicked about with the interlock circuit to prevent starting with either side stand down or in gear and clutch not in. Won’t there be a diode thingy in the mix somewhere as well as those switches to check.
