I have just put my deposit down and am about to cross over to the dark side to join you guys and buy my very first GS - oh will I have to eat my words and live through the torturous comments and micky taking that I have dished out to beemer riders over the years:augie

I realise that this question must have been asked once or twice but what are the best tyres to put on my shiney new (to me) 1200gs? I don't intend to ride offroad (intentionally), I cover about 12k per year mostly two up and my riding could be best described as "spirited". A have sworn by Michellin Pilot Road 2's on my Viffer but what are the latest choices for bikes that don't have proper sized wheels:rolleyes:

Just ride it with whatever it comes with. Seriously - you're not going to get any lower levels of grip on the road with Tourances, Trail Attacks, Battle Wings or Anakees than you are on anything you'd put on a VFR.

Continental Trail Attacks for pure road.

Metzeler Tourances working for this reluctant off-roader....Michelin Anakees are tough as old boots.

Also used Avon Distanzias... never had a crap set of tyres on me 1200... maybe I don't ride hard enough?

:beerjug:

+1 for conti road attacks :thumb2 I'm on my 2nd set.
Street Pilots are good as well but I don't think Pilot 2's are available in 19" yet

OE Conti Road Attacks are fine on the road but didn't work when I involuntarily went off road...maybe it was the speed....:augie

Mind you the tyres were trying to work sideways....:blast

Hi Camsdad.......:thumb2

Welcome, you will never look back.

Look out for 3 other GS's around Wakey :Duchess

Going to try Dunlop Road Smarts next after feedback on ere, running Conti Trail Attacks at mo, no probs :blagblah

TD

another one for Conti Road Attack:thumb
anything coming on the bike from new will be absolutely fine but won't 'feel' as good as a pure road tyre.

My current bike has Battlewings which are Ok but I find you get more vibes coming through the handlebars on many UK B roads at 60mph plus.

But get a GS and just ride it. They're brilliant fun!

Thanks for the advice lads, it sounds as though they are good with any boots on. I tried 2 GS's before I put my hand in my pocket and they both handled like they were on rails, unfortunately I forgot to look at what they were shod with but it sounds as though it doesn't make much difference.

Hope to bump into you around Wakey TD:)

Really hoped you managed to stop before that tree Captan slow

Roadsmarts.... :thumb:thumb:thumb:thumb

Don't like them semi knobbly dual sport tyres...

Road Attacks were good aswell.. If the Roadsmarts start costing too much I'd go back to the Conti Road Attacks... They snot up a bit on the sticky Scottish roads though...

And glad to see you made it in... When you getting your twat suit ???:comfort:comfort:comfort

I've been fairly impressed with the Conti Trail Attacks mine's shod with; they seem to offer decent grip and feedback wet or dry and the chicken strips are none existent :augie

I'd certainly fit the same again if they're considerably cheaper then pure road tyres and offer a better life :nenau

Fancy seeing you two on here:thumb I'm even more confused about tyres now than I was when I posted:blast

trial attacks work well on my 1150,,,,
but your in wakey, judging by the state of the roads round here at the mo, id go for something more "motocross" to cope with the holes:(

Give Paul's mate a ring in Keighley... When we saw them last weekend they couldn't get the Roadsmarts in GS sizes, however I'm sure they will be trying.....

I have a Pilot Road 2 rear and Pilot Road front (they don't yet do a road 2 in GS size).

These work great, and I'll be using them again.

So if you like 'em on your Viffer, then you'll like them on your GS :rob

I am going to see him soon so he can have a twiddle with my springy things as I couldn't afford the ESA option that I wanted:(

Now that sounds like a plan

Yeh will be interesting to see what they say.... Mine's wound up 75% and feels just about okay....

On the non-ESA demo we tried (10.5 st wife and considerably heavier me), I ended up winding the preload up to maybe 75%, but the standard damping setting allowed the bike to wallow - the damping definitely needed increasing to suit :(
