I had a few hours to kill today so thought I would take the opportunity to take the GS for a spin as its been at least a month since I had been on it!
I only got a few miles down the road when I realised the indicators weren't working, I pulled over and realised that nothing worked on the lefthand switch gear??
Has a connector come loose? how can this happen when the bike hasn't been used, I am fairly certain it was ok the last time I rode it?

Nothing new here.
BMW switchgear is known to fail and will be replaced under warranty.

I recently had the left side switchgear on my 64 GSA Replaced as the INFO button was working intermittently

Ask the dealer to carefully check the other side. I had the same issue on my K1300S back in 2009/10, annoyingly the right hand one caused a lot of problems including a Lambda sensor failure, possibly a coincidence but a right PITA

My right hand switchgear (April 2014 built bike) was changed as a warranty recall. The left hand switchgear was become sticky whilst stood through the winter. A squirt of GT85 has loosened everything up except when I press the ABS/ESA switch upwards. Guess it'll probably require replacing before the warranty runs out.

The first thing I noticed with the WC was the crap quality switch gear.

My left hand side is loose & wobbles back and forth.

I have seen better on a £200 Chinese Mini Moto.

Call the dealer .... Better still. Call BMW Assist. Make them recover your bike to the dealer (remember it's now not roadworthy/fit for the purpose blah blah) and ask them for a loan car. Don't forget you've bought a Premium Brand product and things should never go wrong etc etc

Or

You could just fire some WD40 in to the switch and wait 5 mins to see what occurs ?

:thumby:

As noted in the second post, I had the same issue. It was the receiver module that connects to all the left switch gear was faulty, not the switches.

Seriously, would anyone put these bikes into a position where being laid down in water is a possibility?

The all new R1200GS WC ... with all new problems! :blast

Had this problem with all left side wobbling around.....took to dealer and they pulled the ring back slightly towards end of bar and revealed a small screw which he tightened up and all was ok.....

Thanks for your reply, as with crotchrocket whose thread you linked me to it must be the receiver module as none of the switches work or the sat nav wheel? and I thought I had purchased a premium brand??
Ive had many Jap bikes and even an Italian bike and never had this sort of issue!
Will call a dealer tomorrow

If its of any use, it was Vines in Guildford that fixed mine. Perhaps your dealer can call and verify the symptoms.

Switchgear is probably from the same factory as the £200 Chinese Mini Moto

The crappy switchgear arrived with the Twin Cam models in 2010 ISTR. I had to have the left hand switchgear changed on my RT TC and a friend had the switchgear changed about five times on his K1300S before swapping it for a ZZR1400

Thanx crotchrocket, spoke to the dealer today, they actually have parts in stock, so quite a common fault I would say, they could of fitted me in tomorrow but that didn't suit me due to work so it's booked in for next Friday.

What worries me though is if that can just happen out of the blue how can I have any confidence taking the bike on any trips ??

I dont know how old yours is, but mine did it in the first couple of weeks. I think (touch wood) these things show up early on. That said..... the only other fault I've had like it, was the cruise control switch stopped working properly and the switchgear was changed. That was a 2015 GS with 8k on it. But at least thats just a pain, not a requirement to get the bike home or carry on with a trip :D

OK it turned out to be a loose connector would you believe!! Premium brand my ass!!
Still all done under warranty which will run out in March, arghhhhh better start looking for a replacement?
