As the owner of two airyheads, an 80g/s in very original trim and my 100 gs in globebuster trim, I am very confused as to the value of these bikes. (not that either is for sale).
In the "for sale" section of this forum we have a couple of airheads for sale.
One is a very special immaculate one off with a well documented history, for sale for £5000. The other an ordinary, reasonable ,half tidy g/s with no mot or details for the asking price of about £4000.
Is it me or am I missing something.:confused::confused:

Well, my take is that the one was for sale, and the other is a fishing trip to "attract" comments from persons who live south of Bristol.

Clearly a piss take and probably has sawdust instead of engine internals.

This whole g/s thing is getting out of hand. It's only us who are ramping the prices through the roof. They are nice little bikes but to be honest I really wouldn't fancy riding one too far. The lack of go with a standard engine and chassis soon gets to be tedious and you get to the bikes limits far too quickly for my liking. As soon as you push them hard the handling really isn't there. At high speeds with a load on they are bordering on being dangerous.

Now I wish the speculators and Investors who aren't really interested in them as bikes would feck off and leave the little piles of shite's to those who really like them for what they are :rob

And yes! I have been drinking :ChrisKelly

Just back from a wedding "do"
I agree Rob, leave them all for me please :thumb2

Oh dear, hope I hav'nt started something..... This was a genuine question but since posting it Ive had a browse through some of the other and previous posts and might have reopened a can of worms, Sorry about that.

Just as an aside though, I dont agree with you Rob. I like the way the bikes handle even when pushed. I dont like the brakes much but they are ok with care, ( you should try my Austin 7), No they hav'nt the performance of a modern bike but most of the time its not useable unless on a fairly straight smooth road and wheres the fun in that.
If you are just trying to put off the " investors",

then you are sooo right. :thumb

There's not much of em to like :D:D:D

Some of the asking prices are crazy, but then again, have you seen the prices of 1150 ADV's these days :eek: and god forbid if you want one that is white (and no different in any other way :blast:blast:blast).

I reckon Lil is worth around £2500 and Bertha is maybe £3k. Or £26k for the pair if you live across the water :D:D:D

I really liked the way Lil rode. Handled very nicely and was good fun on a 300 mile trip to Cornwall on new years eve ;) If it wasn't for wanting to do loads of off roading she'd still be in my garage. Still, i have first dibs on her should pops decide to move her on :thumb

You can drive monos miles - I have - well recently 500 in one day to be exact.

The R80 is pleasant and great to ride - I would think that my 1973 R60/5, (although not a mono), would cope with one of my trips down to SW France with no problem

They are certainly not overvalued as they are unique and were expensive, (rightly so), when new.

Well used BMW Airheads have outlasted all bikes, they are OK in today's traffic and will be in the future - and there lies the value

Well I was asking £2000, then a guy rang me wanted me to do this and still pay £2000, so just spent £750 on it TAX, MOT, New STARTER MOTOR, New battery, Migsil stand, brakes serviced new pads, new MOTORWORKS lever and fluid chamber and seals.

As well in the past a NEW Dual sport lighting unit, rear Olins and New Front springs all done by Main Olins agent Mark Hammond Racing £1500

Andrew Sexton engine £3500 bills ( last owner )

On order RENTHAL FAT bars and raisers

for Sale back to £3000 its a fantastic ride :thumb

There money pits :blast

i have noticed you don't like the brakes much Tony, is that why you don't use them much :D

Well I think its a shame :D

Up until the point I realised just how much they are routinely sold for, I always had a kind of dream that I'd end up with a mono in the garage keeping my 1100 company. To fettle and play with (and possibly do some serious, but relaxed, solo miles). Sadly I think they've gone way beyond the sort of price I can justify for a thing to 'play with'

However, its good to know a bunch of you have and appreciate them for what they are, rather than (or perhaps as well as) the investment that they're becoming :thumb2

don't know much about prices

but Camilles priceless:D unless theres a retirement plan on offer:augie oh and she's just flown through her 25th mot:thumb2

see you at golly boys n girls.

Exactly :thumb2
3 of my bikes will never be for sale, R90s, R80g/s. R26.....
Others may come and go but those 3 will be mine forever...:rob

AND I DON'T EVEN CARE WHAT THEY ARE WORTH. I LEAVE THAT TO CAROLE NASH WHEN SETTING VALUES EVERY YEAR....

I haven't even looked at the values on my policy this past two years:blast

No matter what they are worth they are still a better investment than any of your PEPs ISA or other stuff the Banks throw at us................and remember the divident is in the riding even if it is not too many times a season

Any work on an Airhead can be done by the owner - that is why they are cheap to run and own
