Oh dear,oh dear.

I see in Nov edition of TWO that the HP2 in supermoto guise is up against the KTM 950 SM.

Let's just say it comes second.

Now I know that this must all be b****x ,as the HP2 must be the better biike,'cos it's a BMW and costs £1000's more, but this is the second mag to draw the same conclusion.

Cue rantings about MCN,Emap etc etc zzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz.

They do say that the supermoto wheels cost extra, but am I right in thinking that they now come as standard-possibly to try and shift some unsold units ?

If so,the plan might just have backfired if the mag's view is taken into account (which it will be by some).

Hopefully Tsioknut (?) will be along in a minute with some statistics/race results to prove that the HP2 is the best supemoto in the world...................ever.

Nothing to get excited about, read the article.

A dedicated road bike beats a dedicated dirt bike with road wheels/tyres.

Quite unsurprising.

KTM - It's so effective as a supermoto because it's designed as one from the ground up

HP2 - It's unfair to dismiss it though because the HP 2 isn't sold as a dedicated supermoto.

:1/10 :troll1

I'm sure if the HP2 had trodden all over the KTM,then many people here would be shouting from the roof tops, but when it's the other way round,it's always

'do we care'
'the mags are all crap'
etc etc.

MF: I really don't care, there are many many bikes out there, that do different things, better than the 12GSADV that I ride, but I like it, and thats all that matters to me. If I was in the market for either of the above, I'd ride both, and make my decision, no matter what the press said. BMW unfortunately rule themselves out of the running on price alone, in Journos opinions, but I think the majority here can live with that.
Ask yourself the same question. Would you be shouting as loudly, were it the other way round?
Then again I don't really care....

Would you expect anything less? This is a single marque site and we are KTM owners that happen to ride BMW's as well. For me this forum is a good source of information on GS's and I have met some great people through it as well, but when it comes a balenced view on alternatives some people are proving to be very blinkered. It is a pity the only real alternative is an American site.

Troll moi?

The 950SM is sensationally superb looking and handling. I'd have one if it had a bigger tank. An absolute hoot to ride. As mental as a bucket of frogs (Charlie Cox). I might sell the Aprilia and get one actually - be able to use it for spares for the 950 Adv :D

No doubt the HP2 would be better offroad, but then there's the 950 Super Enduro for that.

Maybe you are a troll, so maybe this is rising to the bait, do I care :nenau

My bike is not my first or only source of transport, it's a passtime or a toy. I therefor don't have to apply the same criteria to it's purchase as I do to my car (such as tax costs, purchase price, running costs, speed, performance or handling). Sure some or all of these are influencing factors but the decision is not a logical one. If it was then I really wouldn't be riding a GS.

If I was in the market for one of these bikes then again I'd be buying on lust more than logic. I'm not saying that means I'd buy the HP2, I'm not saying I wouldn't. Haven't really considered it. I didn't buy a KTM 950 Adv. because I don't like the dealer :nenau I bought a GS partly because I do like this site :D

Didn't know that I was shouting at all.

But,yes,if the HP2 had come out on top, then it would have been worth a mention, definitely

I'm not blinkered by brand loyalty ,as you can see by my signature.

I had a KTM 950 Adv S for a few years and have recently got a GSA12.

So far, with very limited riding, the GSA is certainly proving fantastic, build quality aside.

I found this forum by chance and must say that it has been very useful when asking questions and getting good gen.

But it is certainly populated by some of the most blinkered riders I've ever come across.

Perhaps it's because a lot of BMW's bike range is slightly flawed that owners feel they have to defend the bloody things so much

Given that this forum, and membership of it, is based on an interest in BMW GS bikes... is it really a surprise that people's subjective opinions are leaning towards GSs?? :nenau

Other forums might suggest that you go somewhere else to share your opinions... but here seems to welcome discussion, debate and most importantly banter! (Most of which is light hearted :P )

Having non GS opinions on the site saves me having to look on other forums to know that I chose the right bike :D

Here's the bloody truth, that nobody can take.

Both KTM and BMW are shit. :eek

This is the ONE! :thumb

Can you handle the truth?

Forget about Bike Mags. Ride all three, KTM adv, 1200gsa, BIG Ruckus and find out for yourself. :rob

Surely no-one's taking this seriously ??? I'm having a laugh and I shall continue to do so, knowing i'm on the superior machine hehe.

Anyway, I hope this didn't start because KTM520 & I were messing about in the HP2 section and it was taken in the wrong context. For those of you who don't know, we ride off-road together using pogo's. Then I got an HP2 and he got a Super E and we've not seen each other since ( because he wanged a high paid job in some tin pot European member state :D ). We tease each other in the best possible way - neither of us take it seriously ! We're both happy with what we've got and both smiling :thumb

And if I really wanted the best, i'd choose the new Guzzi SM
