Hi all
I am a member of the Blue Knights, whose members are drawn from Law Enforcement types, mainly Police Officers, Prison Officers, RMP/RAF Police etc.
Now please, I know some are not inclined to be best buddies with the long arm of the law, so I'd be grateful if you could just mutter under your breath on this one, and read on, without the usual postings about what a set of so and so's we are (or were in my case.)
The North West area branch, England 5, has been invited to join in with the NSPCC/Childline to promote their "Big Bike Ride" weekend, 29th and 30th June, 1st July 2007. This is a nationally recognised cycling event, but as most of us are old farts used to little more physical activity than chewing our lunches, we've decided to use our motorcycles instead.
We will attempt to visit every Police HQ in England and Wales in 48 hours, returning to the start point, which is under the scuplture "The 'B' of the Bang" outside Sport City, Manchester (the home of Manchester City FC.)
This will be individual riders fanning out in all directions, using the symbolism of the sculpture, and not a long queue of riders folliwng nose-to-tail).
We are currently being supported by the Club, and Manchester City Council ,who have let us use the facility at MCFC free of charge. We hope to be on telly and local radio, and very soon the NSPCC will be sending out literature to all stations across England and Wales (in Welsh, as well) to gain publicity.
I have, with the aid of the NSPCC, started a Just Giving website, and we have a target of £2,000. Please help us to raise as much as we can for the NSPCC/Childline nationally. Please check out http://www.justgiving.com/blueknights
Every charity is a worthwhile one, and having worked with some of the most badly absued kids in this City, and seen the utter devastation caused by child abuse/neglect/domestic violence, many of us feel that this one in particular needs as much help as it can get to rescue and protect as many kids as it can from their abusers, as well as providing a voice on the end of a freephone to kids who have no one else to turn to in their darkest hours.
Thank you for your time and all donations will be gratefully recieived.
Andy
