Numb fingers & thumb - ideas anyone?

Had the same problem...
For me it was a combination of the grips being quite narrow on the GS and me holding on a little too tight. Solved it by wrapping racket grip (Karakal or Sabre) in the same way as you would do a racket, making them a softer a bigger feel. Sorted.

Yep. On every bike I've ever owned.

Grip Puppies on the GS made a big difference for me.

Some swear by an auto throttle/ mechanical cruise control thing.

Anyone have another retailer for Grip Puppies (mail order) ?

sounds daft but bigger gloves cured it 4 me, better circulation, how many buy gloves before they test em on handlbars

:thumb Grip Puppies helped for me but bigger gloves is what sorted me out.

I cut my first pair of Grip Puppies a bit too short  If anyone wants them to try, you can have em.

Despite all that has been said to the contrary, clinically this is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The distribution of the pins and needles confirms that the radial nerve is affected. It is not circulatory in origin as either the radial or ulnar artery on their own is quite capable of supplying the whole of the hand. The question of repetative stress injury is merely the icing on the cake of the the CPS, but as mentioned, alteration of the wrist position whilst riding may well help to alleviate the symptoms.
Nerve conduction studies will confirm the diagnosis, and waiting times will vary considerably from region to region. See your GP to start the ball rolling. Play with the bars, grips etc to see if it helps. Don't use Nsaid's, ( anti-inflamatories) other than for pain relief as they will have no added benefit.

Hi all,
I have been running in the GS in until now and kept the revs under 4k. what I have found is that when riding with the engine revving in the 5k region that the vibration is so that I get pins & needles in my fingers also noticed that the view through the mirrors is impossible to use due to the blur produced by the vibration.
I have made a call to the dealer and they said that the cylinders might be out of balance and may need to be checked, by this he meant the amount of vacuum in each cylinder should be equal.
Has anyone been told this or has suffered this and does it make a vast amount of difference when set up correctly.
Regards,
Grimo

I had the same issue when I started riding my divi9 a few years ago, numb fingers ,I then used standard overgrips, then as the other posters have suggested moved onto the puppies. It fixed the issues I was experiencing.

However since I've got my gsa ,never had a problem, I guess it is the upright riding position, and I tend to sit well back when riding, anyway, seems more natural and relaxed.

Glad i read this, i've also been suffering the same symptoms, only ride a CG125 at the moment and assumed it was me leaning too far forward and cutting supply to the hand.....That was the reason i started looking at the 650/800 for the future, sat more upright....maybe I should look into it a bit more (pins and needles, not the bike choice :blast )....thanks

I get the same feeling, my gs came with the front brake lever set a bit too high, never bothered to do anything about it, bought a throttle rocker- didn't make much difference. Before the last ride re-adjusted the brake lever, still little or no difference, (i ride with a finger covering the lever most of the time), chucked the throttle rocker after 40 miles of the run and hey presto- pain gone 340 miles no problem.
Think the rocker forces you to keep your hand at the exact same position all the time.

cruise control won't work as I need to change speeds

Don't crank the cruise control down tight, there's no need for that. Just tighten it enough to stop the spring zipping the twistgrip shut, that way you can change speeds as easily as normal, but still remove your hand to get the blood flow back, should you need to. :thumb2
