numb hands while riding

What have you found is the best cure for your hands going numb while riding
my throttle hand goes completely numb after about 20 minutes probably from the vibration. I can shake it out but I have to take my hand off the throttle to do that and never thought it the best solution do I need to fit risers ?

ive had this on sports bikes but never on the gs.you have to make sure your arms are relaxed and no death grip.if its definitely vibration it mines be worth getting it checked out.mines really smooth at all but high revs. 100mph+

Numb hands

You can get over this with a so called 'cruise control' ( see Nippy Normans or Wunderlich sits. ) I have heard that it DOES work. In the old days (ha,ha) the Bm's had an adjustable friction damper on the throttle so it could be set not to close when you ceased to grip it - this was very useful but I suppose was discontinued as a result of safety regulations.

If you're getting numb from the outside of the hand, do a search in the 1200 forum for "Renthals". Quit a few of us found that the sweep of the standard bars was overly sharp

Throttle rocker - had seem them before in the UK but thought they looked stupid. Moved to the US and saw lots of bikes with them so tried it. Fabulous. So simple, so cheap ($8) and so effective.

I squirted clear silicone sealant into the handlebers,
first; slacken off the handguards,
remove the bar end weights,
attach a length of small diameter rubber tubing to the nozzle of the sealant cartridge-push that into the handlebar-well beyond the threaded part for the bar end weights and squeeze the trigger a few times and re-assemble the bar end weights and handguards.
I wasn't sure if it would help at all at first,but it does seem to have improved things for me,maybe the soft rubber of the silicone is absorbing the vibes.....or maybe the weight of the silicone is acting like a harmonic damper I dunno but it works for me

Vibration induced numbness more likely to set in after a much longer period. Maybe its just a matter of getting used to the riding position? Solution is to ride the bike more

Maybe consider adjusting or changing the bars in the longer term if you can't get on with them.

Throttle rocker

Throttle rocker. I use one this all the time , around the city and whilst touring. Its cheap and when you get used to it you will be happy. I know it will resolve your problem.
The rocker lets you relax your grip and control the throllle with you palm and you can stretch you fingers and relax. Worked for me and may others, simple and cheap.

Sounds like you may have an underlaying problem such as HAVS

Trust me I'm a doctor. OK, I'm not but do know what the symptoms of Raynaud's disease are. This is why even with Tourateck extended hand guards and heated grips on full blast, I still get numb hands in winter. Also as a forestry bloke with responsibility for staff using chainsaws, we have to have health screening to ensure control measures are effective. Even out of a relatively small number of people (25) 3 'triggered' and are off the tools now.

The bars vibrate and that causes numbness, simple as. Gloves won't stop it and the only way a throttle lock will is by allowing you to let go and shake some blood back in. Throttle rocker won't let you do that.

Another endorsement for Jaws VFM lock from me too.

Mutters is right though 'to an extent'

I remember having some vibration issues on my 05 1200 when it was new. Either the problem went away as the bike was run-in or I got used to it

Holding the bars too tight can also cause similar feelings of numbness and tingly fingers, as well as sore shoulders, back ake and general fatigue. If you are doing any thing more than simply resting you loose hands on the bars you're holding them too tight. You shouldn't need to be gripping the throttle to hold it open.

These symptoms can also be caused by poorly positioned bars and seat.
If your happy your not gripping too tight, try adjusting the position of your seat and/or bars. Try the seat first as it's the easiest 'assuming you have the standard one'.

Had the same problem on my 08 ADv, checked the valve clearances, and found the inlets on the righthand pot out, adjusted to correct clearance. Bike now feels smoother and no more tingles/numbness in the hands
